i was told there is third party software for canon the will allow me to shoot while tethered to a computer and the image will appear imediately on the monitor for preview (instead of having to hit enter as in file viewer util). So it will work more like a leaf back - it may even be leaf who makes this sofeware-anyone know or use it? This would be for a 1DS and Mark2.

I don't see anything on these programs that say you can see the image prior to pressing the shutter. In other words, not a live image - only one already taken. I am not sure if such a thing exists. Or am I reading the documentation wrong. Are the pro versions required?

With a DSLR the image doesn't exist until it's been taken. It's not like the P&S cameras, since the mirror as well as the shutter blocks the sensor. P&S cameras leave the shutter open to capture the image for pre-viewing on the LCD.

Capture one here.
The only problem I'm still having is that after my camera has gone into standby C1 hangs when reconnecting.
Still working arround that by restarting C1 when my camera has gone to standby.
But it works WONDERFUL.

I use C1 for converting my RAW's to JPEGs voor storage.
I save both RAW's and JPEG's on my HDD.
For the pictures I want to work on I use PS.

That's also possible but you can't do colorcontrol or watch B&W and 100%, you are still looking at a small res version.
