Lovely shot Marie. Great looking building and setting. Too bad all of the cars are in the lot. I think it would be perfect with an empty parking lot.

Very nice ... reminds me of the New England, USA, textile mills such as Bates, see http://ci.lewiston.me.us/development/batesmill.htm to see the resemblence.

Nice one, Marie! It reminds me of the administration building of the college I went to in 1958!

Marie, great detail! How did you achieve that? Our local college is in a bit more of rural setting.

You Irish like to put your colleges near rivers. I believe the U at Galway lays right on the river as well.

Nice photo!

Thanks Dwight

the Bates building is a little 'stiffer' or stern looking but very nice
and I can see what you mean

the college shown in the photo here was built around the 1800's
not sure of the exact date but it started small (er) :) in 1756 when local people fenced off about three acres of commons land on the banks of the river and built a little house made of grass sods and thatch for the local priest

your picture of the college is very nice
looks quite quiet there
nice green patch around it

the details in my picture maybe came out alright because of a grey dullish sky
the reflection was lovely in the river

some swans floated underneath where I was standing on a bridge ( which led into playing fields)
and I got nice shots of them from on high

I saw a heron down further and went to where it was perched
it was looking all around very proudly as though it owned the river

I tried to 'shoot' it but it sensed me there and took off

I'll try and get a picture earlier , some morning

there are always cars there as the church is to the left (of the picture) and Mass is celebrated there every morning

I took shots a year or so ago of lovely girls going into the college very early in the morning
so it will be difficult to get a shot without cars then , or in the evenings as sports and others gatherings are going on all the time

but, you never know, I may find it 'blank ' someday
:)

myself, I like the cars there as they add a little of 'what goes on' to the feel of the building (in ways)

like I liked the girls walking towards the building and their classes

but then , thats a whole different scene

thats nice, thanks Frank.
the old buildings are lovely
seem to have more character and detail in their design
although some of the newer buildings would be more serviceable for today's demands and can look very good too

Nice photo!

Galway is lovely and so close to beautiful and wild Connemara
( near where the film ' The Quiet Man' was made. I think it was made in Cong , County Mayo but the house used in the film was moved to Maam's Cross which is in Connemara)

thanks Sandy
it is a lovely building
I think the clear reflection was mostly because of the grey skies that day

 :)
