I am looking at a couple of Serie 1 lens for the Canon. They are 28mm to 300mm and 28mm to 105 mm. Are they any good? Anybody using one -samples?? Also what lenses fit the D30? I am looking to get one soon and am not too familar with it. I know you need EOS lenses, but I heard something about EF and other types. Do they all work? Thanks for any help.

EF is the autofocus lenses made by Canon that will function with EOS cameras.

Sigma, Tamron, Vivitar, Pheonix, Tokina all make lenses that will "work" with Canon EOS cameras.

But be aware that with Vivitar and Phoenix some of there lenses are manual focus only! I would avoid these two alltogether,.. just take these two names off your list! :(

If this lens is for a D30,.. don't get a vivitar :(

We are talking absolute bottom of the food chain.

If you can't afford Canon lenses,
The Sigma or Tamron 28-300mm lenses would be a much safer bet.

I use a Sigma 28-300 a lot as it is soo handy at its small size.

It got me this pic;

Thanks for the info. I can afford the other lenses. I had Series 1 before and they always were sharp. Also thanks for the mention of Phoenix - they have some pretty long lenses I was also looking at. By the way the photos are great on your site. But the bird photo is a bit off. They aren't looking at the camera ; ) Bob
