Went to nyc tonight and took a bunch of pics of the brooklyn bridge. yea yea, so does everyone else. Well it was my first time and i always liked pics from that area. So i decided to take some for my own collection.
Here are 3 pics i thought were the better of them all. Please tell me what if anything could've been done to make them better, if they need anything.
#1. 24mm 4sec @ f/5.6 ISO200 WB:Auto

I would suggest trying this with the white balance set to incandescent. I think you should try the 24mm at f/22. I would be happy to have any of them be mine! :-)

Dwight thanks for the recommendation's. I might go back this weekend. I couldn't get much closer on the north side. The park leading to the bridge was locked. So had to go in a smaller park but still great views.

I like 1 and 3 best. No 1 has a slight lean to the right.
Nice

i just looked, #2 looks to have the lean. If you look at the verizon building in the background its pretty parrallel to it. And I thank you for the comments.
I will be going back. I really want to get the rockefeller christmas tree before its taken down this weekend also a few other pics.

I was just in NYC on Sunday to visit my mother in Brooklyn. We went over the Verrazano (sp) Bridge so from my sister's apartment I could see the bridge on the Belt Parkway. I had my 10D in the trunk, of course and couldn't get that shot. The water was calm so the reflection was awesome. I wanted to cry. The bridges are so amazing.
Your photos are wonderful. I loved the 3rd one because it put the bridge in context in a reflective way up and down. Great shot.

Thanks everyone. Im going to go back in a few days, try some different settings and get more shots from the city too. I can't wait till they finish painting the GWB and light up the towers again. Thats an awesome sight aswell.

I think the last shot is the best, also a great shot.

Nice shots. #2 is my fav. Although it's not as sharp as #1 & #2, it's more "dreamy".

Nice photos and I like the angle and composition. Specialy of #3. but #2 is the most sharp.
I just think the settings are a bit confusing for me.
If You are using a tripod and there is no moving action, why not try at least f/8 or f/11 @ ISO 100?
You don't have any reason to push the ISO to 200 or 1600 if you are using a tripod and there's no moving action that might require higher shutter speeds.
What you do want is to have an acceptable DOF and as you don't have any foreground objects you don't require f16 or f22 to have everything in focus. f5.6 could work but you might want to try f/8 or f/10 to have more sharpness and the "starlight" effect on the street lights.
Does this sound right?
BTW, I think shooting in RAW is the way to go. WB you can decide after.

Very nice, I like the third one the best. Where you at Brooklyn Bridge Park? That's one of the prettiest and lesser known aprks here in NYC. Fantastic view of both Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges, but the park rangers are a bit strict when you go there with a tripod.

I just fooled around with the settings really. Trying to see what kind of effects i'de have. Im definitely not going to use an iso above 200 next time, my god were they noisy.
I was in the really small park with the childrens playground. I was at the southern entrance first then went over to where they have the big steps down to the water.

I used to work at an ad agency about two blocks from where those shots were taken, and would take my lunches in that park every couple of days... it's also beautiful during daytime. Funny, I was thinking about heading down there to take some shots this weekend myself. I like your third shot best, btw -- and the color is beautiful.

Thanks guys/girls. I really think i may go back and try a few more. I would like to get a darker looking sky though. The sky never really is as red as it is in the pic. If not i think im going to order a print of the pano for myself.

I absolutely LOVE the Pano; but my only gripe is the clouds. I think the wind was blowing a little too hard or the shutter was a bit long.
With the color of the clouds as prominent as it is; I'd suggest a shorter shutter speed to get the clouds to look more crisp.
Don't take it as criticism; as I've done the same thing a LOT and it's not something you can see in the LCD.
Good Job! Maybe I'll try it when I get back to NYC this summer (go Yankees!)

tdragone, i completely understand what you mean. I do plan on going back maybe this week and trying some faster shutter speeds.
