I'm practicing my black and white conversions and am pretty happy with the overall look of the image except the little girls face could use just a touch of brightening. Is there a way to do selective brightening in color or b&w?

Sure. Use your favorite selection tool and select the face and then use your favorite adjustment tool.

Well that was so much easier than I'd ever imagined. Thanks Sledhed.

Don't you hate it when you read a reply like that and just go "Doh- thats too easy". It is amazing how much another's view on the same issue or problem can make the solution so easy. Of course, the same can be said of a photograph for that matter...

Another technique is to lighten the whole image and then go back using history. Then use the history brush to lighten just the area you want in a new layer. Not a great description, I know, but maybe someone can spell it out a bit better than me.
