Hey everyone!

I've had a canon A70 for about 2 months or so when a few days ago i dropped it (note to self: buy a case next time) anyway, the actual case of the camera has split everso lightly however it seems to have being enough to get a selection of small fibres behind the screen, they don't seem anyway small enough to fit through the gap in the case, which is actually broken on the front section rather than the back, anyhow i sent it back saying that it was broken and requested a new one, unsurprisingly they refused leaving me with a camera I now have a couple of options that i was wondering if you kind people would be able to help me with:

Option one: The insurance company said they will cover me but i will have to pay £100 excess, which quiet frankly is a bit too much for a £230 camera. They will let me keep the existing one which means i may be able to sell it on ebay to cover the costs.

Option two: Take it to a repair shop, i don't know if its possible to open the unit up, clean the dust and repair it later.

Option three: Pay for cannon to sort it out, i think this will probably be pretty expensive, having to pay for packing and what not and i still don't know if they will fix it?

Option four: Any other suggestions?

Whatever thanks for your help

Option 4?

Assuming the camera is still working would it be possible to blow/suck the fibres out using a vacuum cleaner or air blower and then seal the case using something like areldite?

Alternatively there are some screws around the case - if your feeling brave undoing these might allow the case to be removed - you could then clean it - glue the case back together and replace it.

But if you do this your a braver man than me!

Thanks, but there the hoover idea didn't work, they are still on the screen, these things are pretty big TBH so i can't see how they got there, if i remember correctly i think that they where actually there before i dropped it, hence i can't see how they got in. Do you think a small independant dealer would be able to take it apart, and would they charge alot?

If your in the London area you could try the camera clinic on 02076315224. They'll give you a quote, but I suspect it would be in the £50 - £100 range!

Are you shure it's dirt/fibres. It couldn't be that some pixels are permenantly turned on?
