Today, the Chicago Fire Department fought a huge, 5-11 Alarm Fire that destroyed one of the oldest houses of worship in the city. It has been said today that this church was the birthplace of Gospel Music by various media outlets. I got to the fire late and thus did not get many good pictures, but this should give you all a sense of this tragedy.
1. This is the first shot that I took. At this point, the roof has collapsed.

2. I moved to a different vantage point and got this from a distance. Notice at least 6 master streams on this side of the building.

3. CFD E45 working, pumping water to one of the master streams.

4. Here you can see an example of in-line pumping. Because such a huge volume of water is needed to put out a fire of this size, fire hydrants on different water mains are needed. This fire was on 33rd street and Engine Companies were pumping from as far away as 39th street to supply in excess of 15,000 thousand gallons of water PER Minute.

5. Here is a Tower Ladder at work. One of the master streams.

6. Firefighters monitoring multiple master streams. It is turning into a long night.

7. Chinatown's Engine 8 working.

8. Here you can get a sense of the volume of water being used. City streets become flooded around the fire building because the sewer system can not handle all of the water.

9. Here you can get a sense of the destruction. Only a shell remains where once stood one of the most beautiful buildings in Chicago.
