i dont intend to lug around a whole lot of gear on overseas trips, esp when moving around sightseeing so i'm thinking of just a simple enough bag(either backpack or sling)which can fit a rebelXT with attached lens(normal telephoto zoom of moderate range).
any recommendations folks?:)

I was able to fit the XT with the 70-200 f4 L attached into my Tamarac Velocity 7. Good bag but dosent fit the XT with grip.

oh yes,i should have mentioned the RebelXT has grip attached too:)
also, this is all i will want to fit into the bag,so i do not need additional room for any spare lens/accessories etc.

Your Expedition 7 doesn't fit the XT with the grip on? I find that very hard to believe. I have the Expedition 5 and I can easily fit my 1D2 with the 100-400 lens attached with no problem and the 5 is much smaller than the 7 while the 1D2, I'm sure, is bigger than the XT with the grip on.

I was cosidering the Tamrac model 519 which also fits onto their belt modular system. Here's what it says at the Tamrac site:
"The Pro Zoom Pack is one of Tamrac's largest Zoom Packs and was specifically designed to accommodate large pro cameras such as Nikon's F-5 and D1, and Canon's EOS cameras with the power booster. With the zoom lens pointing down, the Pro Zoom Pak holds a pro camera with a lens attached up to 8" long. Alternatively, an internal padded divider can be used to protect and carry two smaller lenses or accessories. A large outside pocket will hold a flash, extra film and accessories. Inside the fast-access zippered top is a Windowpane-Mesh (javascript:topWindow('i_windowpane05.htm'))™ pocket for filters, lens caps or cleaning materials.
Remove the shoulder strap and use on belt or as chest pack with the optional S-500 Chest Harness System. Accepts Modular Accessory System (javascript:topWindow('i_mas05.htm'))™ (M.A.S.™) and Strap Accessory System (javascript:topWindow('i_sas05.htm'))™ (S.A.S.™) products and fits onto our M.A.S.™ belt system.

Try this one...its pretty light, very reasonably priced and you can put more than just a camera in it(ie. non-camera items in the top). I got mine for under $90 US
