Night scenes with S30

I've got a powershot s30, and was wondering what the best way to take night shots with it are, WITHOUT a tripod. When I use the night scene mode, the pictures normally turn out quite blurry (shaky hands).... any tips or tricks out there? Thanks!

If you don't want to use a tripod then put the camera on a flat surface for support.
Night scenes handheld are not possible due to the long shutter speeds required to get a correct exposure.
