I wonder if we can get group rates on the ferrys?

NordieBoy
13th of February 2006 (Mon), 04:38
Hey Wazza, can you see NordieBoy from here with that lens?
Dunno but if I could hold this Practika 500mm mirror lens with the 2x converter screwed in the back steady enough I could see him (or at least his lens) :D

Flying saucer bokeh looks cool

That bugs me that does.

You know we could make this more than just a GKPE thing, make it a forum wide contest?

The way GKPE dominates the front page of the Acvtivities thread it may well become just that. :D

The length of the North Island

NordieBoy, is that you with the Sigma 70-200 on trademe?

Nope, but I did just buy a Sigma 28-200 on TradeMe last week :D
Nice lens but a bit soft, even softer than my 75-300 non usm canon.
But being able to use it all the time without swapping lenses

TradeMe handle is FBI.

Looks fairly reasonable given enough notice, what does everyone else think?

Hmmm, Not a bad price, I do remember there are some nice walks amongst the pines on kawau, but little else besides mansion house (boring) and some wallybes (ausies) which may have been removed (slaughtered).

What about Waiheke and Rangitoto?

Rangitoto might be the go, closer, cheaper, with heaps of photo ops, probably can go and come from Devonport too!

FlyingPete

OK, Fullers 'sails' from Devonport and downtown to Rangitoto, costs are $18.40pp return with discounts available for groups. Also an additional $29pp you get a tour ($47.50 package deal).

I have been to the summit on a few occasions now, not a stroll in the park, but not too bad.

We could hire one of ferg's kayaks and get over that way..

Oh I laugh..

MattL

I would kayak over. A couple of my friends do it regular like.
I can even take my camera with me lol.

Rangitoto in May might not be such a bad idea... Cooler weather does wonders for a tramp/hike/trek...

I'm going to huff, and puff... and roll all the way down:D :D :D

That could work, theres lot of free parking in Devonport to, unlike the city.

The Sunset from the top of Mt Vic could be pleasant.

That's where we witnessed the water spout form ;)
Free Parking at my house too, bit far from Devonport though, I must admit :p

Rangitoto?
Come on, Whites Island surely.

Where's your sense of adventure?
You can borrow some of mine, I'm not using it at the moment.

:D

Moppie

White Island would be cool, but I don't think we could afford the helicopter fare :)

iKirst
13th of February 2006 (Mon), 22:48
White Island would rock. I think i'd avoid taking little EOS out in such an ashy area though.
My flatmate/step bro is one pratical test away from being a fully fledged commercial Heli pilot...

OK, Weekend of 6/7 May 2006. So do we do the the Saturday (6th) like the past two GKPE's?

How about this for an itinerary:
Meet at Devonport Ferry terminal around 9:00am for 9:25 Ferry, also option to catch 9:15 from town, for those with free parking there :D

Spend morning on Rangitoto, head back on 12:45 or 3:30 Ferry (how much time do we need?)

Back in Devonport to check out the tunnels and head up to the top for Sunset.

Do we do the old school film challenge on Rangitoto, or around the tunnels?

tim

I was just talking to Cyren (pronounced like Serene), she said she just saw Kirst on an ad on TV. Are you on TV Kirst or was it someone who looks like you?

Yep, Saturday sounds good -- it will give me time to rest my aching feet and back before I go to... oh, I don't have work... bugger! I'm not as young and fit as I used to be.:o

I can drive if you guys feel safe with my driving:D How many of us coming from this side of town? 1 or 2 cars should be enough I guess.... We can leave 830am and be there by 9...

330 ferry back to Devonport should be just right I guess. Unless we can find a way to kill 7 hours in Devonport...

Let's do a whole day "old school film challenge" I'm sure that it will force us to think more creatively.:)

I was dressed like this.. (http://www.ikirst.com/gallery/me/DSC00078)

The only version of the commercial I've seen, you see me for a split second.. Has Cyren got a photographic memory or something?

PS - that costume was so not my idea :p

Uh oh... another secret is coming out:D :D :D I'm world famous since quite recently :p

That wouldn't be her.

Right, GKPE III hassn't even happened yet, and I have an idea for GKPE IV!

This is the weekend of 5/6 August, most probably 5th of August, the idea:

GKPE IV - The Great Suburban Train Adventure

Basically start at Britomat, and head out the south lines and west lines, stop at points of interest etc, there are still some cool stations out there, and plenty of other photo ops.

You can buy a full day pass that lets you hop on and off as often as you like, so cost won't be too much of any issue.

Thoughts on this?

A sample calendar could be:
GKPE Part III - Weekend of 4/5 February
GKPE Part IV - Weekend of 6/7 May
GKPE Part V - Weekend of 5/6 August
GKPE Part VI - Weekend of 4/5 November

Time to recycle these dates for 2007?

We only seem to do Saturdays, so here we go on the first weekends of the above months:

3 February 2007
5 May 2007
4 August 2007
3 November 2007

That gives us 5 more dates, and an easy planning pattern :D

FlyingPete
23rd of October 2006 (Mon), 03:41
Was chatting with Scott tonight, we thought it maybe possible to recycle GKPE I for our next event, so how about GKPE VI being Western Springs, zoo and a sunset a Piha, it will be in Feb so the weather should be good. Not sure about the early sunrise of the harbour though

Moppie
23rd of October 2006 (Mon), 05:28
I was thinking of suggesting that to, it was so far our most successful outing.

We could of course leave it for the May or August event, as the shorter days make for an easier sunrise to sunset shoot :)

FlyingPete
23rd of October 2006 (Mon), 18:40
Could be a good idea, but it did make for a very long day, we could do the sunrise as a mini?

Anyway started a new thread for 2007:
