And those on here to are wedding photographers..what is your opinion on which camera really is better for weddings and portraits....

The 20D or the 1D MKIIn? I do not know much about the 1D....

I think I heard the 20D is better for low light, as in high ISO's....

The other question is...what about the 5D? I know there will be something new in Feb...but for right now...I'm just wondering...

Don't tell me to search either...this is a specific question..and I want opinions.

The best camera for weddings I've found is the one that is in your hands at the wedding in operational condition, all the others don't matter. peace.

I am not sure where you heard this but I can assure you the 1D's are better, in terms of less noise at high ISO's

and I know you don't want to search but there are many answers to this question...in terms of what camera does what...

Cheers,

We shoot all our weddings with 1D MK II’s and 1Ds MK II’s. A wedding just before the holidays with very poor lighting (like none!) in the church and reception venues. I’m sure glad we had those 1D MK II’s !! … Dan …

I recently got a 2nd 20D for weddings. I decided the 5D wasn't worth the asking price right now, and i'm waiting to see what the next 1 series camera is before I go that way. The 20Ds work well for me.

Even my "consumer" Rebel XT is pretty good with low light, and it shoots fast enough at about 3 fps or so. I think the lens is where it matters most. Best of luck.

gotta say that the 10d's i have been using for years were awsome & best of all..reliable!
however that was before i met my 5d.
how good is the full frame again & fast & intuitive to use.
just be prepared to upgrade all your memory both in cf cards & hdd & ram on the pc.
big files!!

I use a 10D and a 20D for weddings. The 20D may not be as good a camera as the Mark II but it lets me use the 10-22, a focal length that is missing in the Mark II's 1.3 system. I really think that the Mark II is better suited to photojournalists who can make use of the huge buffer and toughness. Hey it's a great camera, but those extra $ can be used on lenses!

Now the 20D is going to be moved down a peg in my scheme of things when I get a 5D in the spring. I've used my 10D as the available light camera at weddings for grabbing candids and for shooting the ceremony itself (from the back of the church with a 70-200 f2.8L on a tripod). Now the 20D will be great for that. It has MUCH less noise at high ISO's than the 10D and will give me at 8MP what a same size crop from the 5D's 12 MP will. In any case it'll just take less card space and give me the same image.
