I need help....I have tried on my own and have called tech support and have been unable to get any assistance.

I had the S1 IS and loved it -- however the new S2 does not
have an action mode on the dial -- I love to take pictures of my
daughter doing sports and have not been able to come up with the
appropriate setting. All my pictures are either dark or blurred. Can
you help? I also miss the auto flash of the S1 IS -- maybe I was being
greedy for wanting the newer technology and add'l 2x zoom.
Can anyone help with setting suggestions?

There is a cutom mode on the dial where you can save something what S1 IS settings are for Action/ Sports. See the EXIF info of a suitable picture taken with S1 IS and set it on S2 IS. I am a beginner, but I think it should be one with a high shutter speed and atleast ISO = 200. Autofocus may be kept at continuous.

Regarding the flash, I think the manual pop-up flash is better as you can control when you need flash. If you pop-up it goes to auto flash by default. And many experts on these forums have the opinion that natural light pictures have more depth and have more accurate colours.

Indeed, the "C" (custom) mode may be very handy for you when you've worked out some of the optimum settings. In addition, there's also a "shortcut" buton that will activate some specific setting you choose.

I don't have the camera or manual in front of me, but I believe the S2 flash is "auto" by default -- it just has to be raised to turn it on. However, there may be a menu setting that turns it off unless activated by the button near the top of the body. Again, can't confirm that at the moment, but I know the flash button does cycle through some options.

On the S2, the flash button cycles between flash with every shot and flash auto (when the camera thinks it's necessary.) The flash is turned off for every shot by lowering it.

If you want to see a couple more suggestions on what you might want to set the C mode for for sports shots, take a look at this link: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=117655&highlight=custom
