When I took this, the sun was straining out the last of it's 2 hour appearance. The photo came out too bright and too orange so I decided to practice my B&W conversion methods.......Still not perfect but looks much better than the original.

Beautiful! the B&W really works great in this, I think even if the colored one was good you be hard pressed to have it better than this one in B&W. Love his expression. :D

Love it. :)
I don't think I've seen your grandson in more of a profile shot so this works well. The shadows are a nice accent.
For a salvaged shot, there's much to recommend it.

Of all the photos I've seen of your grandson I think this is my very favorite! Great job. Is there more to B/W conversion that just hitting the grayscale button? I'm not tried anything more complicated :)

Thanks to all...he was just getting ready to pitch a rock when I snapped so he was quite intent on it's destination.
Barrettd: I usually convert it to B&W, then adjust it in curves to give it the right amount of contrast and shading that I like. But I am new at it so that's why I posted it here.... to see if it was just me who liked it. Being prejudiced about the subject does not often make me very objective.

The expression on his face adds to the lighting, or maybe it is the other way around. Very Pulp Fiction (what's in the briefcase?)
Nice shot. This is one I would have hanging over my desk.

Here is the original, in case anyone is interested.

I like both versions. The conversion is super, and the original, I like because the golden coloring lends the viewer to realize it was late in the day.... when the sun creates a magical glow over everything it touches. You can play with curves here and I think the color is a keeer... He's such a cutie!

I missed this one originally but I'm glad I came across it. I like the B&W conversion you did, but I really like the original shot better. I think the late afternoon light is beautiful and it really brings out the red color of his hair.

Gosh, I thought this thread was dead! I have edited the color photo and it doesn't look too terribly blown out, after all.
Thanks for all the comments, Joel, Dave, Schniks and Peachy!
