It is the upgrade from the Japanese site. Maybe it is NOT the same as the US upgrade which is to follow shortly. I'm not sure if I will upgrade yet without further investigation. I'll post back here if I find out.

Anyone seen an updater for the Mac?

Downloaded and installed - no problems.
Readme file in English, I preume the filename
10D_101-e.exe refers to the English language version (101-e).
A quick before and after did seem to show some differences in highlight detail, will have to wait until tomorrow to find out in the field.

The updater above will work fine on a Mac. The file is not an .EXE is is actually a .zip.
Download it to your mac, drop the file on DropUnstuff in your Stuff-it folder and read and follow the directions on the read me .TXT files that you will find in the unstuffed folder.
I myself am gonna wait to install it until the "guinea pigs" that have already done it report back about it's merits. Or, of course, until canon releases an offical explaination of it's features. Which should by all accounts be tomorrow.
Good Luck to you

I upgraded my 10d and now it won't power on!!!!!!!!!!
I think I would wait so you don't have a $1500.00 paper weight.
Well I better start the process of calling tech support.

No one from canon will comment on this upgrade until it's Released on the Canon USA site. This will happen on June 26th which is tomorrow. Expect a full press release as well as a list of what it fixes.
They have been shipping cameras with the new firmware for several weeks now. I would assume that they consider it to be a reliable improvement from 1.0.0.

Dam- I just updated my 10D and a brown liquid started oozing out of the CF compartment (memory oil?) -then I got a shock from the camera body and had to drop it on the cement floor! The lens cracked, but the camera still powers up. Now the LCD screen says "fatal error 3415".
Under that it says "please contact Sony service center".
Was this firmware for the Sony 10D?

No luck from tech support, they weren't even aware that a new Firmware was going to be released.

Just what is it that this update is going to fix? My 10D seems to be flawless.

I went ahead with the upgrade since it had English instructions. The Japanese website location gave me a "forbidden" message when I tried to access it other than the download. The upgrade went well and it does seem to improve highlights AND it even tells me subliminally who to vote for for President next year. I can't believe Jesse Jackson is finally going to win!! :-)
Just kidding as well. I took lots of shots today with the upgrade and it worked flawlessly. I even cleaned my sensor and FINALLY got all the smudges out of the sky shots!!! Now if someone had just warned me NOT to clean that prism thing above the mirror, I wouldn't have ugly marks in my viewfinder!

Upgraded today - went like a dream - I've seen a discussion that it significantly lowers the noise at 400 ISO too... haven't had a chance to test it, other than verifying the camera works fine, but one poster at another site verified that he had got the link from a Canon tech...
Cheers,

The Canon BeBit site now lists the changes to the firmware:
1. It increases the reliability of USB communication when used with the camera direct print.
* When an image file with a large capacity is printed with the camera direct, printing may stop halfway.
2. It corrects wrong simplified Chinese letters on MENU.
* Some simplified Chinese letters were found to be wrong.

Let's see, so far the people who installed this a day before Canon really released it have reported that it:
- improves AF
- improves metering
- reduces "blow out"
- speeds up start-up time
- reduces high ISO noise
- provides sharper images
Oh, yeah, and Canon mentioned something about Chinese letters.

Well the first serious photos using the update to 1.0.1 are fine - but so they were on 1.0.0.
The first shots I did last night (UK time) did show what looked to be slightly better saturation (after vs before) but who knows as the light changes here by the second anyway; so yes, it could be wishful thinking that there is anything altered other than what Canon have said.
As I didn't have a camera problem before and don't appear to have one now there is nothing lost in doing the update.
Now about that rebate on L lenses and the better auto composition - where do I find those?

Just done my firmware (quite scary after hearing someones no longer turns on!)
Quick test shot in artificial light at and the exposure control is much better. I was getting an almost constant 2/3 stop overexposure before, but now it seems pretty much spot on.

P Mode automatic settings improved,
Light transmission interpretation enhanced,
Aperture selection in Auto modes improved,
Color rendition and saturation enhanced,
Exposure algorithms improved,
Blowout in highlights fixed,
Owners of 10D given "Feel good" security blanket.

Imagine you are the Canon 10D operating system team. By the time the 1.0 is going into cameras, you have about 10 new mods/fixes ready. Two months after release, you hear the complaints from early adopters -and address them. Three months later, you have 20 mods/fixes - and even had time to tweak up some of the original fixes.
Now, are you going to pass on every little tweak you did to the guys in marketing? Are you going to admit that you left out some stupidly obvious line of code which makes the camera expose like it should have?
Probably not.
It's very likely that the programmers could not help but comb out several less-than-optimum routines.
Areas of changes: Stability, exposure, focus, communications and OS interface. They may be subtle, but many little refinements have surely been carried out

..or imagine that you have released a $1,500.00 dollar Camera mere months before your agreement with HP, Epson, Fuji, Olympus, etc. involving a Universal Direct Print Protocol yeilds a definitive and bug free solution.
In a few months all the Big Companies and there combined tech people have ironed out the bugs for DPS printing,.. do you leave that $1,500.00 camera out of the loop?

PLACEBO
From the latin to please (1) : a medication prescribed more for the mental relief of the patient than for its actual effect on a disorder (2) : an inert or innocuous substance used especially in controlled experiments testing the efficacy of another substance (as a drug)
The Facts are that canon claims two fixes in the update:
Chinese characters and USB connectivity with direct print.
Anything else is either bunk or rumor. But if it makes you feel better by all means install 1.0.1

There are a large number of 10D owners out there, who no doubt have a fault (or think they do) with cameras, but rather than accept that they were unlucky would prefer to believe that Canon is covering up the problem.
To these people it is just as likely that the two firmware updates in 1.0.1 which Canon will actually put on paper are in fact a cover-up for the myriad of 'fixes' for a camera which Canon "know" to be a dog - not just the odd one, but the whole production run.
We are back in Conspiracy Country again.
After all if you accept that Canon would knowingly sell a faulty product and deny that any faults existed, then the mega-fix firmware update by the backdoor is surely the next logical step!
I can't tell any difference in my 10D before and after 1.0.1, perhaps some people can...................

I haven't installed it myself.
To be perfectly honest,. I think I won't... nit untull something substantiual comes along.
For me,. compared to any Camera I've ever used the 10D is like touching the face of God... I cna find no fault,.. only new excitement every time it pulls another rabit out off the hat....
But I'm probably easy... I've never even owned a real film camera.
Paul I like your Conspiracy Theory on top of Conspiracy theory... "The Cover Up"

As a (former) software developer for HP, I must agree with Yavor75. There are often minor bug fixes, process improvements, etc. that are on canon's developers' bug list that won't be published outside canon. They will only include level #1 fixes on their published list of improvements

Now I'm confused. It doesn't take much. So Canon release Firmware upgrade but don't really tell us what it does except improve USB link for direct printing (I don't do that) and chinese letters (I don't read Chinese). So, I think I'll leave my 10D as it is.
However, reading the forums (is that fora?) users report amazing things including dramitic improvement for one chap who's AF was miraculously healed. He reported previously, 50% of shots were "soft focus" now none. Then the highlight thing and handling colour.
Do I understand correctly that Canon will only tell the changes that avoid losing face? It seems that the Chinese letters and USB link are minimal gains for a release of Firmware or am I missing something?

I have heard the the upgrade will improve your health and fitness and make you a better lover. It's also supposed to make you more attractive to the opposite sex.
As for getting a 50% discount on your next L glass if you update, I heard that the update automatically converts your existing lenses to L glass anyway.
There is an unconfirmed rumour that the update will go out and get you a better job with more pay.
So why wait, update now.

I just "upgraded" one of my cheap Sigma lenses to Canon "L"
It was the most cost effective improvement I have ever mad. My shots aere clearer,. the AF is lightening quick,. and the Chicks dig it too....
So what was this miracle cure you ask?????
