Problems with Rebel XT Raw

I decided to finally starting learning how to use the Raw feature on my 350D, but am already confused.

I tried taking some test pictures, but when I plug my camera into my computer to use the software that came with the camera for processing the Raw pictures, the software dosen't even recognize that my camera is plugged in. I can see my normal C drive, ect, but not the camera, which usually displays under "My Computer" when I plug it in and turn it on. I have tried with both "Zoombrowser EX" and "Digital Photo Professional" that came in the CD with my camera.

Also, I thought that when I take a picture in Raw, I would not be able to see the picture immediately after on the LCD like on non-Raw mode, but I find that it in fact does show up on the LCD. What gives???

RAW has an embedded JPEG - that's what you're seeing in the camera LCD.

How have you been transferring the JPEGs to your computer? Have you been doing so with te Canon software or with Windows' "wizard"? IIRC, to use Windows, you need to set the camera communications option to "PTP"; for the Canon software it should be set to "Normal". Did you install the software and camera to your computer exactlyas it was described in the software manual? If not, uninstall it, reboot and go through it step by step as Canon says to.

You could also use a CF reader to transfer the files over using Windows Explorer (My Computer). It's much faster, saves your battery, and since the camera's not sitting next to your computer with a cable between them begging to get snagged, it's also safer. Then open the files with ZB or DPP. You can transfer files from CF card to computer with ZB as well.
