I met you...like 4 years ago. I was the dope who didn't have a tripod (and still don't...). Now that I'm actually living in Boston I hope to get out a bit more...

Doh! Sorry i forgot. There were a bunch of folks that used to be regulars that used to come out. They don't come out anymore.. :( Did i let you borrow my tripod?

Yeah, I was planning on being "creative" with the ground or other large, mostly immobile objects, instead I got to play with a fancy tripod! I want to get myself a tripod...but I don't typically shoot things that need a tripod...damn circular logic!

Ha, i have the ****tiest tripod ever. Whenever people meet me they are like... "That's the tripod you use!?"

But yeah, tripods are necessary at some point for our night excursions! :)

speaking of tripods..

anyone have a recommendation for half decent portable legs? Something I can throw in my luggage case if I feel like taking it on a trip?

I think it's time for me to pick up a tripod ;)

I have a manfrotto pistol grip but no legs lol

Jon

Price range? Are you finicky about having a 6' tripod?

Personally, I use the Gitzo 1541t (discontinued). There's recent favorable posts in the Accessories forum on a Feisol and a Horus Bennu. But I'd lose that Manfrotto pistol grip if you want a portable combination and go for a straight ball head.

Thanks! Well I moved around a lot. I had a seat in Section 15 row 6 but only sat there for a few innings. Most of the rest of the time I was walking the lower level taking pictures or poaching other peoples lower seats until they came and kicked me out. :D this was towards the end when everyone started leaving. I was sitting right next to the dugout at the time because all those seats were empty once we started melting down.

Jeremy, you put a message in flickr regarding one of the Big Stopper shots I took. About the "next time, call me", thing... That photo was taken in England :D Although when the weather is good, I want to get the camera out to the coast or some place with water to use the Big Stopper :D

nah, impossible....you have to be on "the list" to get a brand spanking new Ferrari, in red. Even the head of Ferrari USA isn't on the super exclusive list. No way a young teenager would be on that list for a 458 Italia, no matter how much money. So someone else got it, and let him drive it.

Old man in Monte Carlo who drove a Ferrari told me "When you get a Ferrari, always drive slowly, nobody drives them fast, you want to be seen in it ;)"

what do you need help with on WP?

if it's a photoblog or photog site, have you tried zenphoto?

Seriously though, I'm just trying to get a template setup and running correctly on a dummy site so I can port it to the real site after I'm done = no downtime.

I just need to focus and do it... that's all. This web stuff always kicks my ass.

Also just tore down my photog site and started building a ZenPhoto setup. Spent a few hours on it already.. ZenPhoto doesn't have the support community WP has.

I wish i was... i just have the theory, it's like - i can buy the cheaper item.. have it break at the worst moment ever in front of a client or spend a little more and have more confidence and support from the company.

Like if Canon ****s the bed, then i know CPS will have a replacement for me next day. If Elinchrom ****s the bed, they send me out a replacement within 2 days. Etc... I try to align myself with companies that have the ability to do that.

Now my tripod OTOH.... haha, i don't rely on it so much. So i don't care... it's so beat up, the control surfaces are all bent etc... i should probably replace it at some point.

I was seriously eyeing one of those 8' Gitzo's when i was at the PhotoPlus in NYC. I'd use it with a ladder, but having that height would be awesome!

I have a $380 credit with B&H. i wish Feisol had a competing product.

I just landed (what I think is) a huge opportunity to shine. Thread is HERE (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?p=12466336) and I would appreciate some input on workflow. Basically: hockey tournament (30 teams) over 4 days, and I need to find a solid/smooth way of getting images available for immediate purchase (with print options). I need to find a good workflow...

What I've been doing on private shoots is:

I bring a laptop.. a crappy laptop but still runs LR3 and opens RAW just fine even for a 5dmk2. Liveview so they can correct their own poses/facial expressions.

But what's cool while the pictures are being taken, they are being copied to the harddrive.. I just hope them up right after I shoot and touch them up real quick (assuming I didn't screw any lighting or anything up) and burn them a DVD or put them on their thumbdrive right on the spot. I guess you can print if you have a decent mobile printer setup?

Not looking at the Team & Individual section this minute - I'm trying to encapsulate the action photography first and foremost. I forgot to specify this before, sorry.

For the T&I though, yes - your setup would work well. I don't intend on going the route of electronic copies though... I've a feeling I'd be missing out on a good chunk of sales.

just went over to calumet this morning and picked up the HDuty system + white backdrop and some other things I've been needing.
Picked up a royal blue for a shoot and the guy didn't want it. Asked for darker colors.. so I had to return the Royal Blue.. luckily the manager let me do it as they said alot of people use and return backdrops all the time. So I'm not allowed to keep returning them even if they arn't open!

Does anyone happen to have a maroon red muslin? or darker colors other than black? Would like to borrow something like that if anyone has one. Willing to help out or buy some beer!

Hey Brendan,

Do you have a contact number for Elinchrom?
My Ranger Rx "A" Flash head socket and A Flash Head went bad.
Thanks in advance

I guess it depends on what oyu want to see/shoot. Now when we go down, we go to the Empire State Bld at midnight - no 2 hr queues to buy tickets, or 2 hr queues to get up there, nobody is there at all. Daytime, Rockerfeller Centre, Central Park, I want to do that high-level walk thing, heard good stuff about it. Otherwise, hit some bars/places to eat in the Hells Kitchen area. There is just too much to do, making a choice is hard!

I think I'm going to hit up a good breakfast place then head over the body exhibit (no photos :( ).

Might not be wise to eat breakfast before seeing bodies lol. We'll walk around and take some pics afterwards.
Now for lens choices!!! I'm thinking a 35L with a 5dmk2 no grip on a RS.. travel light that way. but not sure if I want a wider lens to take some cool city shots?

I have 9-3 completely free for myself and the gf before meeting up with our friend for dinner/whatever afterwards.

For example, I took this cruddy shot from Belvedere Castle (in CP) with my crappy Sony Cybershot. I'm sure with a better camera you could turn out some nice views.

Okay - so I've known for a while that the company I work F/T at is basically a ticking time bomb for:
Sexual Harrassment Cases
Going belly up
Getting sold
Employment hearing nightmares
Etc...

But I just overheard our (rather loud) HR lady state she wasn't going to employ someone due to their weight. Pretty sure that's illegal. We're a freaking food service company, not hooters or some other place that requires physical fitness to establish sales.

I've been shooting with it for about a year and a half and have been pretty happy with it. There is noise but without something to compare it to (5DmkX) I can't really complain. I did notice a couple of times if I really push the exposure in processing, there is almost a banding effect from top to bottom running perpendicular to the sensor direction (horizontal orientation).

For the money, I am happy with it.

Make sure you go into the custom functions and enable all of the AF modes. Two are disabled by default but one, the 5 point cross, is really handy.

Yes, I've played with a Vagabond Mini. I've found the battery life to be more than acceptable for 2 lights, and great for 1 light. I think 3 lights would be pushing it, depending on the shooting environment - overpowering the sun might yield less than 75 pops.

I intend on purchasing one shortly, along with an extra battery. I really need to get started on location shooting - so I'm sort of chomping at the bit here.
