Hi guys, just popped into the office at work (2 blocks from the hptl) whilst the wife rests. I really, really, really appreciate the well wishes! It has been a very intense, sudden and utterly manic time since early Sat morning, that is for sure!!
A Non-Stress-Test (you can easily remove the word 'non') has led to awesome Alexander being born. Both mum and baby boy are doing just great, recovering well. All issues were leading to too much stress on my wife's liver, and her health was going to be in jeopardy unless he was brought out (they had no worries with him), so she is getting better nicely. he is in NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit), and is being looked after by the best doc's in Boston. No issues with him at all, other than he needs to pile on some meat on his bones. Slowly and steadily he will :D
Docs and Nurses have been absolutely fantastic and very supportive - as have both of our work colleagues.
I'll keep you all posted :D

Wow, no wonder he's so tiny! My cousin was born about 6 weeks early, I think due to similar reasons, and now she's far too precocious for her own good (especially for a 4 year old)! She was, unsurprisingly, a little behind developmentally, but that seems to only matter until they start talking, by then a month or two difference doesn't mean too much!
Congrats!

Jeremy - love the quote in your sig. The world is going to miss that man. He changed our lives in many ways, and those people don't come along often.
P.S. everyone - It's my 25th birthday today! I'm going to NYC for the weekend. Was hoping to pick up a 17-40 or 24-70 before I left but may just pick up a lens there.

UPS is killing me right now... sigh. I purchased a 70-200 f/2.8 IS last Friday, and it was shipped Friday from California. Ground puts it here today (even their site says delivery today) but it arrived at the Chelmsford plant yesterday at 10am. That was the last scan... no scan for getting onto the truck, and the package lists "on time" still.
Called UPS and they claim it is on the truck. I hate waiting for lenses!!
Keeping my fingers crossed. I want that lens for Sunday's wedding!

j/k - Isn't that the worst though?! I've had plenty of those 'on time' notices, but with the last package scan being in another state, etc. I think that's usually when I start to imagine crazy stuff like terrorists having somehow blown up the specific delievery truck that has my stuff in it or that the driver was abducted by aliens and cannot make the delivery. I'm tracking four different packages for delivery today and will probably spend the rest of the afternoon refreshing the screens every two seconds.

"Funny" story... UPS dropped the lens off at the neighbor's house (clearly labeled street numbers here... seriously). Didn't get a signature from them either. Luckily we are really good with our neighbors and they brought it right over to us. Not too happy with UPS though... very uncool.

Yikes. Glad you got it though. I pretty much did the same thing - packages to my gf's place for her included a new tripod, ND filter and 10-22mm. 17mm TS for me (but forgot to bring my camera to test it out).
Your wife usually second shoot for you? Where's the wedding at?
Edit: FOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOKK!!! While typing this to you I remembered I had saved TCP's # in my phone this morning to make SURE I called them this afternoon. Off to more waterfalls this weekend and still no insurance......obviously I didn't learn from my 100-400mm going swimming a couple weeks ago.

I stopped to help my gf with her tripod while on a bridge over a flowing river at the top of some waterfalls and quickly set down my 100-400mm, which bounced at a weird angle, off the bridge and right into the water about 8 ft down. It floated down a bit and I grabbed it right before going over the falls (about 90 ft). Busted my ass getting it too. Considered it a loss b/c it was literally submerged for about 2 minutes and tossed it in my suitcase after testing it back in our hotel room and AF wasn't working or anything. Looked at it a few days ago and noticed the AF was switched to 6.5-infinity. Switched it to 1.5 and everything worked - guess in the hotel room everything that I was focusing on was too close for AF to work. Only problem is scoring on the inside of the lens, so it needs a good cleaning and a watch for mold, but all electronics seem to work just fine.
Should be great weather for the wedding. Hope everything goes well and you're able to put the 70-200mm through its paces.

How do you like the 70-200? It's my favorite lens, but it will be more useful when I go full frame. It's so damn hard to take a soft photo with it. The lens is incredible. That lens may be the sharpest zoom on earth. Congratulations.

Guys - just a reminder. In order to keep the entire POTN from becoming one huge Classified section, the only place within a post you may talk about gear you are selling is in the Classified section. Anywhere else, you may include a link within your signature pointing to the Classified post. But that's absolutely it. Otherwise, you're spamming.

I had an EVO 4G, then Epic 4G, then back to the EVO, but still couldn't get into Android. Found out that since my wife is a teacher, we get an 18% discount with Verizon, so we pay about $40-$50 per month less than Sprint. They were really pissing me off anyway, so good reason to move. And a big thing for me is the camera, even though the EVO had an 8MP camera, it SUCKED!!!

Still rockin' the 3G here. That's right, I'm a bawler.
To bad about the Verizon thing, I could have bought your 4 and subsidized the 4S for you. I'm still grandfathered with AT&T and as far as I'm concerned Verizon can go pound sand up their butt.

I say whatever works, doesn't matter if it's a Driod, iPhone, or Blackberry (well... maybe not a Blackberry... just kidding). That's what I used to tell my clients when choosing a computer (I was a tech up until Sept. 30). If their old system was working, and it did what they wanted it to do, then why upgrade?
Why the hostility towards Verizon? My hostility is with Sprint.

I agree. When I had the EVO, I couldn't get 4G to work in Boston barely at all, even though the coverage was "supposed" to be there. The only city that worked well was Philadelphia. Hopefully next year we will see a "4G" iPhone.

Verizon's 4G should be in all areas where 3G is offered by the end of 2013. I think Boston is entirely covered.

That's always a bonus. I like the fact that I can have a decent quality camera in my pocket, without actually carrying another camera. Comes in handy when I'm out with my son and he does something funny, which he manages to do all the time (he's 4). And Siri is looking more attractive by the hour, been reading stories about what people are saying to it, pretty cool and freaky at the same time.

I've heard that from a lot of people, sad because it isn't a "5".
I wouldn't call myself a "fanboy", but I do love Apple's products a lot. I've been around PC's for over 15 years, and I would recommend a Mac over a PC anyday if funds allowed, and depending on the computing environment. But I am of the belief that you use whatever works best for you, and for a lot of people, the iPhone doesn't work, but that's ok.

Still have a 3G leftover that I'm about to put on Ebay tonight. Hoping to still make atleast 120 bucks off it. I had it on CL for 100 and had plenty of bites, but it seems Ebay is pulling in more money for Iphones right now.

Why the hostility towards Verizon?
Well I was with Verizon waaaaaaayyyyyyyyy before they came into existence. One company buys another and is then bought by another and so forth. On my original contract I had an insurance plan for my phone that covered everything possible and whatever replaced it would only cost me $20. One of the clerks at one point even asked me why I didn't just smash my phone to get a new one instead of upgrading what I had every few years.
Long story short in about a ten year time span I only needed to use the policy twice. The second time I went to the store(which had been completely restaffed by workers from the Boston area I was later told) because of a broken screen and they refused to pull up my account and told me I would have to pay for a new phone. I'm not talking about the shelf price, I'm talking about an unlocked phone price. Apparently Verizon had changed it's CS policy making it more important to do ones nails than to actually do your job, I'm not kidding either she wouldn't even look at me but just kept telling me I was wrong and didn't know what I was talking about. So I stiffed them for the five remaining months on my contract and started up with AT&T.
So much for keeping it short.

Oh wow... so that's what I have to look forward to... So far, they've been ok, but I've only been wit them since the end of May. Sprint was the same way, so that's why I left them.

I don't know what you guys are doing to get boned... seriously. I've been with Verizon for over 8... 9? years now and I've never had any issues. AT ALL. No phantom billing, no charge-backs, great coverage and good devices that I've taken good care of.
I have never felt compelled to switch subscribers, and since I don't demand the latest/greatest technology I also enjoy the cheap monthly rates and inexpensive phones.
kenjancef
13th of October 2011 (Thu), 07:27
Not doing anything... Sprint was ok for a while, but it was the past few years that pissed me off. I had unlimited data/text plans, and I'd get a bill with a $400+ text charge, finding that somehow unlimited was removed. I call them, they fix it, then 2 months later it happens again, and again...
Promised replacement phones at no charge, then the phone arrives and I get a $350 bill that I can't get out of, even problems with ETF's when I left. I make sure to get everything in writing now. I called Verizon to check on iPhone prices, and I am grandfathered in to unlimited data, so I asked and they said it would carry over. So if I ever do upgrade to the 4S, I will get it IN WRITING that the unlimited carries over.

I was with AT&T for a long time, but then they bought Cingular and changed the name to Cingular. I was charged fees, etc., just for continuing my contract with them. Then, Cingular changed back to AT&T. A couple of class action suits were filed during that time and settled.

I'm waiting for the mkIII... who knows what the November announcement will be, but I'll wait nonetheless... even if it's until next year. It does seem like prices are dropping though. Too bad, won't make expensive purchases from brick and mortar stores... sorry, I know I'm putting local shops out of business. Ken - They push the card through with a zero charge before doing a virtual swipe. The reason for this is to check if the card and billing address are physically valid. Once that is approved, the funds are requested and approved on a different swipe. The first swipe comes through with a $0.00 charge because they aren't attempting to secure funds.
And... they "have" the Mark II - just not available for the 20% discount. ;)

I was with Bell Atlantic when Verizon took them over and my $2.95 a month insurance carried over. The first time I had used the policy they had to get the manager to make sure what I was telling them was true, being none of them had ever seen it before. The manager said he hadn't seen it in years and to give me the next best thing for the $20.
It was about six months later the phone fell out of the holster and blew out the screen on that one. After having the experience with the new staff I went and signed a contract with AT&T at their store down the street within fifteen minutes. A month or so later I was at the mall in Kingston and the young lady that I knew from the previous location said hi and asked me if I was in need of paying my bill. I told her I had switched and what had led me to, she apologized for their rudeness and said she had been hearing the same from a lot of newly ex-Verizon customers.
