I'm a veteran of many traffic school classes, including in an actual class, via mail and online. I have five months to go before I can "legally" speed again. :D It sucks to have a lead foot...

Cybnew

haha..at least i lasted 6 months after i got my license...right :)

ayotnoms

Would it be bad form to say that I have 1 moving violation (1989) in 35 yrs of driving??
....yeah, I thought it would :) :)

I hope I didn't just jinx my drive down Friday.

i'm pretty much in the same boat as Thomas. ever since i got my IS300, its been ticket after ticket. i'm just lucky enough that they're spaced out enough so i only have 2 points on my record so far.

i have to go to court next month for another one.

honestly, when i drove the Camry, i got a whole lot less attention, and tickets. but 240hp and rear wheel drive are just too good to pass up =(

Skip Souza
16th of February 2006 (Thu), 00:43
IS300 ???
Sorry guys I've had a "Get out of jail free" card for 34 years. Even works with our esteemed neighbors to the north. P!$$es the wife off to no end. :-) I do try not to use it over much.

Belmondo
16th of February 2006 (Thu), 00:50
I scrupulously obey all speed laws.

I also lie shamelessly.

The last time I got stopped was on US 395, somewhere around Mono Lake. I was going about 15 miles over the speed limit, but the Highway Patrolman said that wasn't why he pulled me over.......something about passing over a double yellow line or something. Anyway, he just gave me a warning. I probably reminded him of his grandfather.

Me too. 1973. And once in Canada, 1999..... does that count ?

But I am not saying how many times my hubby has been pulled over, then set free because he flashed his badge. ;)

ayotnoms
16th of February 2006 (Thu), 01:19
Well you know, it's mostly a matter of not getting caught.

I've never driven on I-5 and not been at least 10 MPH above the speed limit.

...shh don't tell Deputy Skip. I want the citation-free streak to continue. :) :)

Cybnew
16th of February 2006 (Thu), 01:22
The new look of my car probably didnt help either. It was a girly green/blue when i bought it, now it lookes like a "ricer". So yeah, Saturday is CLOSING IN FAST!!!!!!!!! and i cant wait!

DwightMcCann
16th of February 2006 (Thu), 10:16
Maureen, I thought you objected to name badges!

On the topic of tickets, I've gotten a few, but none since I've been old and decrepit ... the last 20 years.

Maureen Souza
16th of February 2006 (Thu), 10:37
Dwight, I objected to only my name badge... mostly since you all already know my name :) If you have trouble picking me out of the crowd, I am the chubby old lady with reddish hair and more wrinkles than I want. ;) ;)

DwightMcCann
16th of February 2006 (Thu), 10:39
OOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, I get it ... just YOUR name badge! Oh, yeah, uhuh, yup, OK, hmmmm, yes, just yours! What a hoot! :-)

On the Corvette forum, my friends and I have adopted a policy towards badges...

Easy for you to say.... your name is not ayotnoms.

DwightMcCann
16th of February 2006 (Thu), 10:53
Hahahaha! Lovely, Mike! And I wish Maureen wouldn't keep making degrading comments about ayotnoms name ... it may be an old, revered family name and she could be severely hurting his feelings ... our Latin friends don't make fun of azuos!

Belmondo
16th of February 2006 (Thu), 10:56
I don' gotta show you no stinking badges?

Does that mean name tags are out?

DwightMcCann
16th of February 2006 (Thu), 10:58
Belmondo, if you have already paid for all of them with little POTN logos and stuff then we'll probably wear them so that you and Maureen don't feel rejected, but I expect that we'll be able to learn a few names after spending a day together.

mikegoat

Not making any fun at all, Dwight..... I do happen to know it is "Montoya" spelled backwards but I am not good at backwards. I can do Supercalifragilistic forwards (barely) but not the other way. Ginger Rogers, I am not.:p

Step away for a few moments and find my ancestral name being tossed about with campy internet screen names like somekind of new fangled salad in a California cuisine cookbook.

...oh, there'll be hell to pay for that.
Not ;)

Tell you what Maureen, I wear a stinking badge if you promise to make your entrance with this...the famed Souzaphone :) :)

Now, how did I not notice that? It must have been the extraneous "s" that confused me...

So, do we have a deal Mo?

DwightMcCann

Geez, Maureen, I'm just joking! You know, idle banter to while away the hours! Although the idea of you arriving wrapped in a large brass tube does have its appeal.

And as for Bermudo, we all recognize the symptoms and will cut him significant slack.

Oh, Lord, will I ever be able to extricate myself from this mess I have created?

DwightMcCann
16th of February 2006 (Thu), 19:39
Oh, Maureen, I don't care if you wear one or not (although the Suzie Phone would be fun) ... it was you who didn't want to wear one but wanted others to! :-) I'm a liberal and we tend to have issues about equality, even handedness, taking responsibility for our actions and stuff like that ... the usual result, as with most liberals, is that I am more likely to embarrass myself than accomplish anything useful! But I am fun on trips!

ayotnoms

Maureen, Belmondo has posted a pic of himself and his bride. Dwight has his on his website. I've seen photos of you and Skip. Cybnew has owned up to being a young person. MikeGoat looks like Zippy the Pinhead (j/k :)) and me, well, I'll be the hispanic guy with the Zapatista bandoleros with loops on them for my Canon Lenses.

We don't need no stinking badges. :)

Cybnew
16th of February 2006 (Thu), 20:24
Yeah, i dont think i will be hard to recognize...but i think i might make a creative nametag tonight in the darkroom...see what i can play around with, with a scrap of photopaper. and besides...NAMETAGS ARE COOl...all us youngsters are wearing them...its the new fad...if u do it too...you will look like a teen again :)

DwightMcCann

There is a contra-bass reed instrument call the Sarrusophone. It would draw much more attention that a Souzaphone as it is nearly extinct, and therefore much more of a conversation piece.

Belmondo knows many useless things.

Picture of Me, courtesy Steve Parr
http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showpost.php?p=771918&postcount=12

and I've attached a picture of my wife, forgive the quality, it was taken with a Panasonic Lumix 5mp, Horrible quality pictures from it! (her name is Keleigh, pronounced Kelly)

anyone have any good routes to get past LA? Most of my routes take me down the 5/405 or the 60/10 at around 3:30-4pm, could make it sooner if I take the Mustang as opposed to the Minivan...

Comming from the 15 south, might just hop over the Ortegas and cruise the 5 to the 405 to the 101 etc, just dont want to hit L.A. at 4-5pm.

Of course we will be there for dinner.

bviSteve can't make it for the Saturday dinner so I invited him over for Friday evening. We are going to wing it and do a casual dinner/drinks somewhere in Cambria. Anyone else who wants to join in is very welcome.... just call me when you get close to landing in and hopefully I'll have found a pizza parlor or something to congregate in.

Maybe JJ's Pizza Place on Main St. near Creekside Inn? I'll call them tomorrow morning and arrange for a small group.

We will be up tomorrow during the day and will check in by phone with the authorities.

I am in need of a bit of 1D Mark II possible equipment failure advice ... I seem to be getting an over exposed soft edged bar horizontally near the middle ... I also think I can see the mirror hesitate in the middle of the swing ... not sure how the mirror could have any impact if the shutter is still closed, sigh. Don't have time to put up images and such tonight, but I am shooting Brooks & Dunn next week and I guess I will have to have another 1D Mark II[N] as I can't take a chance, sigh. Anyone got one of those to sell? :-)

Heh, that sarrusophone is a type of saxophone. Of course, we can go way off topic and talk about contrabass saxophones (in a photo website?).

Y'all are killing me. I found this thread a few weeks ago, but knowing that I was going to be moving, I figured I wouldn't be able to make the trip..... but I sure wanted to! Then I decided to get out of the Central Valley and found a place in Lompoc.

I was just there last week (will be doing the move next weekend) and got to grab some shots at Montaņa de Oro on the way back. Go there for sure if you can-- you'll love it, no matter the weather!! When I went it was early afternoon and completely socked in by a layer of heavy fog.... but it just made everything more powerful and mysterious.

No matter where you end up, have a GREAT time!

Here are a couple of shots-- haven't posted here before, so I don't know if I'll do this right:

...so you can stand on a cliff and post to POTN from a cellphone or something in CA? Is that environmentally sustainable?

I can post from just about anywhere with a T-Mobile Sidekick II (http://************/ay4pt). It's a cell phone with some PDA functionality and built-in high-speed wireless Internet. The screen is a little small, but it's usable.

Oh man, that's the kind of sky I'd kill to shoot. Wonderful! Where was this taken?
Taken at sunset in Cambria. The skies have been awesome today too. It's just that it's no fun getting wet and risking damage to the camera gear.

:)

It's not his hands you have to worry about, but his feet. Best not to sit across the table from Skip.

We hated to eat and run, but we had to leave the happy group sitting in the Outrigger Restaurant long before we really wanted to. We had to switch hotels, and we had a bit of a drive to get out of the way before bedtime.

We had a wonderful time, and thoroughly enjoyed meeting all the new faces. I am more convinced than ever that Canon owners are the nicest, friendliest people on the planet. We are truly blessed.

Any group photos or other photos that can be shared. Is there going to be special site where some of these photos will be hosted? Would be cool.

Aha! You beat me to it. I happened to be installing a new (to me) gallery script on one of my sites and set up a gallery for this POTN gathering.

I signed in to the Flickr account you set up, but I'm confuzzled-- I see the four photos you uploaded, but then I clicked on the link for Everyone's photos.... and those don't look like photos from this event. Can you explain a little bit of how Flickr works? Also, is there a direct link to that gallery without having to sign in?

Thanks!

Cybnew

Flickr is a gallery type site setup by yahoo, that will organize and store photos online for free.

The four pictures on there now, were from last night after dinner, when we (not all of us) went over to a bakery, and chatted for a while.

edit * I see what you mean now odigi, there was a thing on there that pulled other flickr users photos, and displayed them...i removed that section (i hope)

The people were wonderful!!! Maureen looks about 30 though she claims more. Skip claims to be tough but couldn't be easier. Belmondo and Mrs. Belmondo are simply wonderful folks who mange to accommodate diverse interests and make everyone feel well thought of. Mike and Liz in their yellow corvette convey a sense of personal interest in each of us. Allan's family are all cute as a button. Steve and Patty (at least Patty) were Anna's favorites ... Steve never did get his lens cap off! Lonnie looked just like a cowboy and looks cool with his BetterBeamer! Patrick and Margarita (?) are cute as buttons all on their own ... probably the youngest other than Cybnew. Cybnew is mature well beyond his years and handled everthing. Johnny (I won't tell you my real name) Thunder does NOT look like the Lord of Chaos and Keleigh is also cute as a button (I'm old, that's the phrase I was taught as a kid!) Kev and Ann, the other locals, kept their eye on each and everyone one of to make sure we had fun. So, in place of the pictures I could not take, I have given you this word picture! :-)

One of the great things about these outings is learning from other photographers! For example, in addition to shooting lots of pictures, Maureen does not rely solely on what she sees in the view finder. No, She LISTENS to the picture. Fascinating But then again, this is California...
