Thanks Guys. Its really not a website, but a banner add for this ride coming up in april to raise money for cancer research, so i thought i would help get the message out!

Cyb, what did you use to make it? I have a little experience with websites, too.
I wanted to share that I did not make it to the Rodney Atkins concert in Santa Maria ... Anna, Marna and I were trapped in Santa Barbara by the shooting at El Capitan State Park which closed the freeway for about five or six hours. When we finally were able to get through when they opened one lane there were about 100 police cars, 20 network TV trucks and lots of gawkers ... no wonder they had to close the road. I do however have a few images from The Spinners at the private concert that I am rummaging through ... 1064 frames, sigh. I hope to have something to show by the weekend.

Dwight, i used Macromedia Flash to make that banner. Do you have the Macromedia Suite? I remember you talking to Patrick about it, but couldnt remember if you had it. If not...let me know, I might be able to bring it down to you. Also, if you have any questions about Flash, or Dreamweaver, let me know...i am pretty good with both of them.

Cyb, I have Macromedia Studio 8 sitting here in the package. I have Macromedia Studio MX 2004 that I am currently using. I use Dreamweaver a lot, but if you know about interfacing to a back end MySQL server and/or about MySQL in general, that would be great. I am very rusty on Flash and really want to get back into it. Perhaps I could hire you for a couple of all day tutoring sessions spaced a few weeks apart ... PM me if you're interested.

Matt - you out there?
You're lagging, my man. Both for letting the thread to almost drop off the first page and by not giving us an update on the Great Bicycle Quest. :) :)
I hope the mods don't bring the hammer down for bumping this thread back to the top.

I just (literally...this is the first thing im doing since getting home) bought my bicycle about 40 minutes ago, im picking it up (and paying the $127 thats left on it) next saturday! I decided to go with the specialized allez tripple, a bike that i really liked! :) I cant wait to ride it (for the first time in my life, it did not take me an hour to decide on whether or not i need it...there went $700 :) )

Whooosh!!! (That is not the sound of someone rapidly pedaling his bicycle through the countryside. It is the sound of $700 disappearing his delicate little fingers.)

That's a sweet lookin' ride, Matt. Congratulations!!
I can't believe I posed the question the very day you bought it.
It's been raining for all but 3 or 4 days in March up here so I'm with you....LET THE WEATHER CLEAR UP already...sheesh :)

I don't know how to break this to you, Matt, but that bicycle doesn't have any pedals. Bet it goes like hell downhill, though.

Belmondo, that's gotta be some of the "extra" gear he always mentions!

bah. it has strap in pedals :( im going to buy some shoes, and clipless pedals within a month and a half though. then im going to take it to those people on tlc...overhaulin? and have Chip Foose trick it out...:) Its kinda funny how i ended up buying the specialized.
I was looking at trek bikes yesterday at a place called Foothill Cyclery, and was pretty set on buying the trek 1000 ($686 with tax),so i told them i would be back today (as today was the last day of the sale) and order one (they didnt have any in stock) So i went over there this morning (the sign said they open at 9:30...it was 11:00) so I called their phone number, and there was a message saying that they would open at 11:30. So i figured i would cruise over to Art's Cyclery (a great bike shop) and kill some time. When i got to Art's, i discovered that they were having a huge sale, so i looked around, and found the Specialized that i had been thinking about getting before the trek (the Specialized is normally $760 with tax), and it was on sale for $696, so...i was stoked, and although i was pissed off at the first bike shop, all anger was quickly dissolved.

Nice looking bike. Certainly beats mine, but it only cost me $45 bought from a next door neighbour. For me its academic anyway. The American River Parkway is still flooded out down near my office so my route to and from work by bike is not currently runable.
I guess the water is only a couple of feet deep, I wonder how far I could make it? :)

With some pontoons, and the pedals jury-rigged to a propeller, you could make it all the way through the delta and into SF Bay.
Man, I'm getting to feel like I'm from Seattle with all this rain. I'm definitely ready for some sunshine.

I've just been shooting some pictures of the waterfall that has sprung from the ceiling of a co-worker. I have pictures from the room next door from a couple years ago with half a dozen leaks. This building has leaked since it was built about seven years ago. The contractors were sued and lost on shoddy workmanship, came back and were supposed to have fixed it, but clearly this is not so! So, Steve, be glad you don't have water leaking down onto your desktop computer and trashcans placed all around the office! :-)

:) :) :)
I'm resigned to enduring this kind of rainfall. I read a couple of years back that given the California population, we need this amount of rain/snow every year just to break even from a supply/demand perspective.
For me, it's grin, bear it, and carry an umbrella.

meh...i dont mind the rain...i love it infact....im just a little worried...about riding on a skinny tire (new to me) in the rain...if it were a mtn bike...i would love it....i have ridden in VERY heavy rain...and 20 mph (roughly) gusts...both tail...and lateral. But im still excited...and if i fall...i fall :)

Matt, oh, do I know that story. My bicycle client got my on my OCR with clipless pedals and took me out. She tried to take me up a hill I could not make and I stopped dead, started falling over and couldn't unclip ... BAM, on my left elbow and hip. Two weeks later I had lost some feeling in the my left thumb and forefinger ... took a year to get the feeling back 100% ... I have some bone spurs and such and it had irritated something in my neck. I still ride clipless, but the breakout is set very light and I always unclip now, at least one foot, when I get slow! I am told that this is going to happen to everyone and not to worry about it. Oh, I got a couple of holes in my riding togs, too, but not as bad as when I hit the pavement at 20 mph once because my tires slipped on one of those drainage gizmos. Hmmm, 60 miles ... you could have ridden down here!

Meetings get planned whenever you can find folks who like you enough to get together with you! There really is no rhyme or reason and no central planning agency. There have been Southern California meetings ... a couple of times I think. I will be proposing one to meet at Buellton and include wine tasting nearer the end of summer. What have you got in mind? :D

Actually Cambria and Yosemite are pretty much in central California. San Francisco is not the northern border of the state. :-)

I know this thread has been dead for a while...and i Would have posted on Yosemete get together...but i like this one more :). Anyway...i am getting a new job this summer (heh...at the outrigger of all places) and i should be making around $2000. i owe 500 to my parents for my car. But that leaves me with $1500. Now, i havnt been to active with the photography thing lately...and i want to get back into it. That being said...im looking for a new camera...maybe a 20d? problem is...buying one new doesnt leave me with much money. So, does anyone have some good sites with used Canons? or...even a used 20d they would be willing to sell me?
