This is my first post in the A&N section. This is my cat Smokey. O.K. he's actually my wifes. I bought him for her for her birthday three years ago. Since then he pretty much rules the roost around here! I took these just fooling around with my new XTi. I've taken so many pics of Smoke since I've gotten this camera, every time I bring it out of the bag now he runs and hides. I have to sneek pics of him while he's sleepng now! :D

Here are a couple photos of our new kitten aquuired last night and finally named today. Her name is "Brie". I know the name may seem a little cheesy to some... but I think it's tasteful. ;)
I wonder if her pride would be hurt any if she came to realize that she has NO tail?

Looks like your cat likes to lay clothes laying around the house our cat does the same thing he's very strange. He always seems to be laying on or near some dirty clothes.

Meet Tom E. Kat. He is one of many strays that come around our house. Very friendly cat one of the only ones that would let us get close to him. Poor guy, he was always beat up.
One of the local vets. does a spay and neuter program free for strays. We took him in, got his wounds all fixed up, shots and neutered and now he's as good as new. Now he never goes any further than the back yard. He's got it made. We are now up to 4 felines.

Here are some of our 5. You'll see 6 cats, though, as our old HImalayan, Zoe, who dies aged 26 in March 2007. SOme shots are int eh cattery I built them in the garden, they are all inside cats and the cattery is connected to a downstairs window in the garage by a wire 'tunnel'.
1. from the left, Zoe, Zafira the Siamese and Marmaduke the marmalade tabby. The object hanging down in the foreground is a tennis ball on elastic, which they have now destroyed.

oh yeh i know that - even wild feral housecats are pretty dangerous if you corner them
we dont have any big domesticated cats in nz, the largest one youre allowed to keep at home is a maine coon cat. but i saw a show years ago where a family in the US had a bunch of house cats and 5 big cats: i remember a black panther, and mountain lion among the bunch. they were all just wandering around the house like normal cats.
the panther cracked me up: a house cat was on the fridge, and the panther wanted up, so he jumped up there and had a fist-fight with the house cat, both sitting on their butts swatting at eachother until the house cat gave up and jumped down, then the panther lolled on top of the fridge, all pleased with himself!

It's a wild animal so I wouldn't really recommend it as a pet. However they, like many small to medium sized cats, can be very friendly if they are around humans when young.
And it should be mentioned that it's not really a 'breed'. It's a distinct species from the domestic house cat.

awesome photos... but a cat on a leash? thats just sad lol
Sorry, bit of a rant but it is something I'm passionate about.
No it's not, it's a responsible cat owner who lovezx their cat and is minimising the risk of puss running under a car while chasing a bird or mouse. AND they are preventing puss killing wildlife! That's why my 5 are inside cats. When they come in the car with us (often) they always have their harness on and we clip the lead ion before we open the door. A confined cat is NOT sad, it is safe. They adjust very well.
Despie our 5 being inside cats, with at least 12 hour access to teh cattery daily (longer in summer) only 3 of them go out, and only for 1/2 hour or so morning and evening.
Would it be kinder, living next door to a school with lots of drop off and pick up traffic, and a banan farm next door with many snakes, to let them roam on the roads? I don't think so.
And dogs should not be allowed to roam the neighbourhood either. Ina perfect world . . . who knows?

Both. See my post re cat on leash. Responsible pet owndership to me means keeping them safe and reducing their impact on local wildlife. And they live a lot longer.
A cat's lifespan is 18-20years, and a dogs 12-16 (depending on size withy dgos). However, the average survival rate for an unrestricted pet cat (out at night and day) is just 3 years. How sad uis taht, losing 15 years of life just because the owner can't be bothered to bring puss in at night and clean a cat tray once a day. For cats out only in the day it is 5-8, depending on the region (rural/sem0-urban/city).
So to me I'm keeping my loved ones, who are part of the family to us, safe and well.

The Fishing Cat.
Obviously if they live in Russia there would be times when it is too cold and snowbound to let the cats outside, which is probvablt where he gets the chicken in winter. I’d be a bit relunctant to let puss have his chicken on the parquet floor, I think I’d be putting him in the laundry, but they are feeding him the way we should all be feeding our cats. The chicken looks dead to me from pic 1.
Feathers and all is normal and keeps their digestion healthy. And he is an Asian fishing cat, a recognised breed, and giving him fish to catch is kind and good. OK, it’s tough for the fish, but it has already been caught and is destined to be eaten anyway.
More power to them for recognising their pets’ needs and catering to them.

yeah agree. mind you i know of many wild-born housecats who are just as aggressive, territorial & dangerous (for their size) as the larger wild cats. a cat is a cat, they will play the same cute 'fight' games with your hand that can kill you if they were large enough to overpower you... how many people have been 'tripped' & 'attacked' by their pet cat while innocently walking past - and seen the same trick on tv played by lionesses while hunting buffalo?
in general we tolerate and even encourage a lot more 'natural' aggressive play from our cats than we ever would from a dog... imagine if your dog regularly grabbed your foot and worried it whenever you stepped over it? you'd either put it to sleep or take it to the dog whisperer lol
i think a cat is never truly domesticated, they only tolerate human contact because of the benefits, & affection is always on their own terms. so the same behavioural principles apply whether taming a feral pet cat or raising a big-cat kitten... except that with the big cats, its more dangerous for us.
Very fat and happy one from the San Diego Zoo...
oh my, that animal looks very fat... and cross.

in nz there are no dangerous wild animals and dogs have to be contained or restrained at all times, so the only real problems a pet cat has in the towns are with cars, disease or sadly human cruelty. occasionally a wandering dog may visit but its a rare sight these days. there is a native wildlife issue in certain areas; but the only birds my cats ever bring home are imported species anyway like starlings, sparrows, blackbirds, etc... and the occasional rat (yuk - i like rats but not dead ones on the lawn)
i saw a ferret on a leash at the beach once, but i have never seen a cat on a leash (outside of a show). here someone would be laughed at for considering it... but i understand why its different in aussie (altho while i lived there i never saw one either).
we have always kept cats; unless they became ill or were killed on the roads (yes i take your point), most have lived past 15 years old.

Actually, I do think cats are domesticated pretty well and was writing up a long post on neoteny, domestication, kitten behavior, blah blah, but even I was getting bored by it. So here's my kitty when she was little :)

Disagree, I was under the impression of post your cat pictures, not post pictures of YOUR cat.
Since the title reads "your CAT pictures," not "YOUR cat pictures."

Does that mean I cant post pictures of my friends cat now??? that really sucks. jk
But seriously arent we kind of getting off the topic of this whole website, i kind of thought also it was a thread to post cool pictures of cats, domesticated and undomesticated, and I have posted both on this thread and I think all of the pictures on this thread are cool pictures. Just my opinion though.

A beautiful shot - my sympathies. It's why I now keep mine in the house and only let them out into thier cattery, it just breaks nme up so much to lose them.
Perhaps Zippy will meet up with our Zoe at teh Rainbow Bridge, they can play while they wait for us.
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
