:D

WOW these are feral kittens right? cos they all look like they never saw a human before (or a camera)

A few pics of my bro's Tonkinese cats. The secret to getting these shots is unhooking one side of your camera strap so that it hangs down off your camera. Then set the camera to fast shutter speed and shoot, shoot, shoot!

woah, THAT is one tough kitteh... id just give him the camera dude, you could lose a lot more if you dont comply LOL

Good catch on the green. I adjust the WB a bit and then pulled the green channel down a little (deleted the originals)

A (very tame) stray cat thats been around my house for a few months is the mother.

They were born up there lol. And yes this was taken when they had hardly any human
contact. We had just discovered them :). Nowadays they running around the garden hehe i should take more pics of em.

PP done was auto-tone in lightroom...then used the burn feature in photoshop to darken the background so the kittens pop out.

It sounds like you need to check your monitor. Because they don't on mine.

I did not take them all under electric light. They were in a light tent. I've checked them on three computers now, and not one of them has an orange tint as you've said.

I'm seeing a green tint to the fur of the bottom two, not surprising considering the background (the tent?) is green.

It would be much better to use incandescent photo floods because they have a much smoother spectral distribution than fluorescent, especially the CFL's which have a very spikey spectral output and the Kelvin color temperature is much less stable than with incandescents or strobes.

I am dumbfounded that you actually put the cat in a light tent -- with a green background to boot. When using a background or a sweep in a light tent, it is far better to keep it neutral.

Considering the green was a fun color to play with and not meant to be professional, I think it was a fun decision. It matches his eyes and white or black would have looked too dull. I'm sure he walked in there also, the cat likes to be in front of a camera at all times lol.

They put themselves there.

As for the comments on the backdrop... Everyone I have shown the pictures to loved the color because it went with their eyes. I was having fun with it and it wasn't supposed to be a professional shot. My cats are attention whores, so it was more of a challenge to kick them out of the tent.

Beautiful kitten! Let's hope she doesn't relapse and stays healthy!

Have you any idea at all what may have been wrong with her?

We think it was a reaction to antibiotics we had started giving her for a urinary tract infection a couple days before she went into her little kitty coma. The vet thought that she possibly fell off of something and received brain damage from that, but I don't believe it for a minute since she started acting funny after we gave her the medicine. There was no physical evidence on her skull that she had smacked it. Plus, I've seen her fall and bonk her head a million times and get right back up and try again.

We're just happy to have her little meowing self back to normal.:D

It might be menopause, but that brought tears to my eyes. Sooo wonderful of you to take the cat in. Does her former owner know that she has a loving home and a walmart/camera bag to curl up in?

BTW, I think you're awesome.:DI use a walmart bag to carry camera stuff to the cat shelter I volunteer at- on this day I got all my stuff out and zoe got in!

I have a stray that looks similar. You take wonderful photos of the cats at the shelter. May I ask what lens flash/lighting you use.

Thanks for the compliments
camera is a 30d, mainly I use the nifty fifty, and sometimes for a wider shot I use the kit lens 18-55 non IS, I use a 430 ex11 that is normally bounced off the ceiling as the shelter is not well lit.

I have only been experimenting for a month now. I just took this shot tonight with the kit 18-55 lens on an XS using a bounce flash. 1/200 f11 and ISO 400.
Look in her eyes, you can see me taking the shot.

This thread takes a very long time to load because of the more than 2600 replies. I wonder if this thread could be closed by a Mod and a new one started--perhaps called "Post your CAT pictures here II"?

Doesn't take any time to load for me, at a hotel wireless connection. Your browser only loads one page's worth of posts and images; if you choose a long page size it may take longer than if you have the default 15 posts/page.

My cat absolutely loves trying to much on flowers...even the fake kind!

I took this with my canon 30d the nifty fifty and my flash bounced of the ceiling, I used eleents 6 to do a little touch up and that is all. The back ground is 3 yrds of fabric I bought from my local craft store.

Thanx Sean.Lojek. She know's she's pretty & is smart enough to use it to her advantage...lol

Steve...took that shot with the ol' nifty fifty at 1.8. I was dangling the end of my guitar cable (it was handy) to keep her attention long enough to get the pic. Did a tiny bit of sharpening in Photoshop, as well as some vignetting around the edges. Oh, I also increased the contrast a bit around her chin & cheeks to get more definition there.

Steve...I just used window light; one was to her left, then 2 more were somewhat on her right. Each window has a sheer white curtain, which makes them kind of like large softboxes. I shot it at 400iso, 1.8 @ 60sec.

My cat Meiko does the same thing! Our bath tub plug is full of claw and teeth marks. He also goes bananas over my girlfriends makeup brushes. We usually wake up to find her makeup sprawled on the floor, and the brush in the bathtub (which is where he likes to take things he knows he's not allowed to have). Sneaky buggers!
