My cat Meiko does the same thing! Our bath tub plug is full of claw and teeth marks. He also goes bananas over my girlfriends makeup brushes. We usually wake up to find her makeup sprawled on the floor, and the brush in the bathtub (which is where he likes to take things he knows he's not allowed to have). Sneaky buggers!
Mine is taking the metal drain cover out of the drain. Is that what yours are doing? I don't have a rubber stopper. Oh, and I had a small camera cleaning brush (note past tense). Kitties liked that more than their real kitty toys.

Mine eats the rubber stopper. And come to think of it, everything else that's rubber. Our spatulas have taken quite a beating as well.

My original pick of my cat Zeke at the window
Zeke is a cute kitty. Since we have several kitties, I know how they like to look longingly out the window and perhaps wish that they were outdoors hunting.
Rather than using color channel curves to make corrections to white balance, I think that it is much easier and you will see better results if you use the use the white balance correction tool in whatever software you are using.
In the following edit, I used the eyedropper tool in Adobe Camera Raw to sample the white on Zeke's nose to correct the overall white balance.

Romeo one of the cats at the shelter where I volunteer at, he was diagnosed with Kidney failure last week, unfortunately he was unresponsive to his meds, and today was taken to be put to sleep.
He was a great cat with a unique personality he had a few missing teeth so his tongue often hung out of his mouth which made him look even cuter. He was a semi permanent resident at our no kill shelter, as people dont like adopting older cats...
so RIP Romeo.

The Mack Dog is from Engine 3 in the Old Orchard Beach Fire Department. It bears a plaque for my dad and grampy who served on the force. My dad was responsible for getting that truck financed and in service, but died in the line of duty before it was put in use. So it's the inspiration for my logo, and you noticed it, didn't you:lol:.

ALL cats look like that, it's just hidden!
Once you get used to the organicity of it, you don't even want to touch a furred cat. With a Sphynx you see every muscle twitch, every tendon, every expression. Like a living suede hot water bottle. :)

Not my cat, but one that my parents adopted. She was a stray that made herself at home at my parent's house. The cat's eyes are very unique (to me, anyway... I've never seen anything like this... I'm sure there are several similar cats, though). One eye is blue, the other green. Very pretty cat. Sadly, she passed shortly after my parents took her in...

One of our neighbors once had a white cat with blue eyes that was totally deaf. I didn't know if a cat with just one blue eye would be likely to also be deaf.
Most of my cats pretend to be deaf when I am calling them unless it is mealtime.

Most of my cats pretend to be deaf when I am calling them unless it is mealtime.I assure you that my deaf cats paid exactly as much attention as my hearings cats: only when they wanted to, or at mealtime. But cats with the split colors may or may not be deaf. Cats (dogs, horses and other solid white animals) with solid blue eyes are very likely to be deaf.

I just got my Xsi last week, so I'm still on the very steep part of the learning curve. Not the best background, but I am mostly interested in getting the technical aspects of using the camera correct right now. I just have the kit lens and a 430EXII. I bounced the flash straight up off the ceiling. I did some post processing of raw in DPP but I couldn't get rid of the saturated blue part of the histogram. Any setting I could change in the original shot to fix this?
number six
27th of February 2009 (Fri), 13:57
Hi, Prof, and welcome to POTN. Technically, this is a decent first effort. Bear in mind that a black cat is like a black hole - sucks up all the light. There are details in the darkness there, our eyes can see them, but the camera can't because of its limited dynamic range.
As for the histogram: I don't see saturation in any channel. Here's the blue channel I see:
345659
Are you talking about the high peaks at the left? That's not saturation, it's just that the vertical scale (which is arbitrary) has been set to match the highest peak, in this case the blue channel.
The histogram shows dark at the left, bright at the right, and the vertical scale simply shows the number of pixels at any particular brightness level.
So you have lots of blue channel pixels at near zero brightness.
If you were saturating the blue channel (or any channel) you'd see the histogram stacked up at the right side and cut off by the edge. None of that here.
Make sense?
-js
number six
27th of February 2009 (Fri), 14:07
Here I've cranked up the brightness to oversaturation on all channels, showing the blue in the histogram. The red is even more clipped at the right, but I'm not showing it.
This would be cause for concern:

Thanks for the feedback Jerm and number six.
I now understand that the y axis autorescales, so that makes sense. However, I don't see that the modified histogram looks any more or less clipped on the left than the original. It just seems that the x axis has been rescaled so that there is more distance between the bars for each pixel value. Both histograms seem to have one last bar just above zero on the x axis (or that might be an axis problem I am observing).
I'll work replicating the image edits in DPP later.

Adjusting brightness has the effect of rescaling the X axis, yes.
But your concern, I thought, was with too much saturation in the blue channel. That's why I adjusted the brightness in the second example to create oversaturated (blown) blue (and red) channels.
You're talking about the histogram being clipped on the left. Nope, clipping occurs on the right. This is the standard definition of the term.
Your concern about bars on the left of the histogram is unfounded: at the extreme left is black, nearby is very low-brightness R, G and B channels. This should be expected when your subject is black. ;)

Ah, I see. Well, while you were responding I did another pass: I shifted the left end. As long as I've done the PP I might as well post it.
You'll see the histogram is no longer stacked up at the left, and the kitty is no longer black either. :p

As Number Six mentioned, it is fairly easy to white balance an image ... especially when your subject also doubles as a white balance target. :)
Since you are using Photoshop CS3, I recommend using ACR to white balance an image -- even if it was shot in JPG mode (works best in RAW, but don't overlook ACR for processing JPG files).
Here is an edit in ACR and then final processing in Photoshop using Shadows/Highlights, NeatImage plug-in, and finally low amount of USM.
