Seems cruel :( But I guess letting them breed wildly and having starving cats is just as cruel

sounds strange...why would they catch a stray cat..only to release it , & perhaps starve to death or get run over? why not just put it down? .
to me it seems more humane (jmo)
ok..i guess im confused...
are ferals strays?..& are strays ferals? we have many stray cats in my neighbourhood & IF i were to call the spca they would gladly lend me a trap & pick it up & IF it were too wild to put up for adoption , it would be put down. theres no way it would get released again....guess we have different views in canada.

They catch them, vaccinate them, neuter/spay them and they release them because they will never make good pets. Here they just put a tiny nick in the ear, not lop off the entire tip.
If a cat seems like it can be a pet then they are put up for adoption.
My Avatar has a nicked ear... She has become a pet, but it took about 2 years before she would come into the house and prefers to be outdoors, even in 115 degree heat. ???

A controlled number of feral cats will not starve - there's always small rodents/birds and the inevitable human waste. An uncontrolled population will outgrow the food supply pretty quickly. As for getting run over - Street cats have pretty smart road drills, ok, it's a risk, but how would you like to be euthanised on a 'maybe'?

obnoxiousmom, I have some feral kittens I trapped the other day. They need some TLC and fostering. SC is right up the road from GA. If you really want a kitty.....
I caught the mom too and had her spayed yesterday. She will be a catch, spay, & release as well, but she won't be making any more kittens in my neighborhood. Her kittens won't be either. (None had their ears clipped.) I want the mom to try to realize she can at least trust me before I let her go. I'll feed her as long as she will come around. For now, she and her babies are in a large crate in my guest bedroom.

I am so sad to hear about losing your dear friend. Our little furry friends become part of the family and it is so hard to say goodbye. I can tell that Murphy was truly loved and that is what matters the most.

Maybe you can keep one of the babies now. :)

This is Scooter, about a minute before he jumped up on the railing and knocked off my wife's favorite rain gauge. Of course it hit the wood and smashed into pieces. I took the rap for him though because he's already in the cathouse as far as she is concerned. :P

Many years ago, my wife had an old fat cat name Gordon. He passed away shortly after I bought my first digital camera and I only have one picture of him :( I was going through some old CF cards and found the surviving photo.....

Believe it or not, he could move under his own power and pretty quickly sometimes! There was this one time when I was working on my computer tower and had the case standing in the floor. He thought it was a tunnel and tried to walk through it and got stuck. I laughed. He got mad and jumped straight up in the air to try to get out. That trick about always landing on their feet does not work with a computer case on their back, so he lands upside down like a turtle. I laughed harder and my wife hears me and comes in to rescue him.
One night, I had some friends come over and after a while, my friend Lisa said, "I don't want to alarm you, but your pillow just moved."
I replied, "Oh, that's just Gordon."

What a handsome kitty, Crissa!
sunnydayz1, good luck with that kitten, and kudos for taking him/her into your home. Feral rescues can sometimes be challenging, but it looks like yours is already getting comfortable in your house. Here's a link (http://cats.about.com/od/kittenfaqs/f/sexingkittens.htm) to help you tell whether yours is a male or female. It's not too hard once they're old enough and you know what you're looking for.
In fact, I'll be bringing one of the feral ones I caught back to my house this afternoon since the other foster mom isn't having much luck calming her down and letting her get used to people. Keep your fingers crossed I'll have better luck!

Not that clear at all. Egyptians mucked about with the Gods fairly often and she started life as a male lion, the god of war(Bast), through various mechanations she eventually ended up as a moon goddess (I think). In fact worship of Bast is still around and is close to being one of the oldest religions.:)
