OK, these are some reposts from years gone by, but here are my cats.

The first one here is "my" cat, JC (full name Jean Claude von Cat, named for his acrobatic style of fighting/playing). He was not a very cooperative model, and was constantly distracted by the dog who kept walking in to see what I was doing.
http://www.itsanadventure.com/postimages/JC_63996.jpg

These two are OD (on the left, aka Uncle OD since he's the surrogate father of all the other cats) and Major (full name Major Havoc, since he was a hellion as a kitten). OD is constantly cleaning the other cats if they're within reach, and the other cats often put themselves within reach for some extra attention. Major often takes full advantage of this habit.
http://www.itsanadventure.com/postimages/OD-Major_63985.jpg

The latest addition to the feline population in my house. This is Bits, short for Little Bits because he's tiny and I don't think he's going to get too much bigger than he is. My wife thinks he's a hellion, but he loves me.
http://www.itsanadventure.com/postimages/Bits_70036.jpg

Bugsy on his first day with us.
http://www.itsanadventure.com/postimages/Bugsy_0185.jpg

Bugsy, all grown up. He got his name because he constantly bugged all the other cats when he was a kitten. He still does.
http://www.itsanadventure.com/postimages/Bugsy_64056.jpg

Bebe (BAY-bay), our only female out of seven cats, is my wife's cat and could barely give a darn about me. She's a princess, no doubt, and gets treated accordingly. Even by me, though she pretends that I don't exist.
http://www.itsanadventure.com/postimages/Bebe_64015.jpg

Poco is Bebe's brother. He's an idiot. His meow - he has only one - sounds like a whiney little 2-year-old pitching a hissy fit, and means anything from "I love you" to "OUCH you stepped on my tail."

Major Havoc in a calm, peaceful moment. He was a bit of a hellion when he was a kitten, creating mayhem and havoc whenever possible. While "Havoc" seemed an appropriate name, I called him "Major Havoc" after an old video game that I love.
http://www.itsanadventure.com/postimages/Major_64046.jpg

Midget in all his unkempt glory. He was born with crossed rear legs, as if his lower tendons were half the length they should have been. When he could travel we took him to the vet, expecting to put him down. Luckily a doctor was visiting from Angell Memorial Hospital, a huge animal medical center in Boston. He was intrigued by Midget's condition and offered to attempt surgery as a learning study. Of course we accepted, and Midget underwent surgery the following week.

The vets were not happy with the results, and did not consider the operation a success. That was 9 years ago, and Midget has never had any idea that he is crippled. He runs like a madman - and his rear legs slide out from under him all the time. He climbs anything he can, using only his front paws. He can still jump on top of a kitchen counter whenever you're making a sandwich, and (speaking of food) eats anything you put in front of him. He rules the house with an iron hand, all 5-1/2 punds of him. Even the 84-pound German Shepherd respects him and his rath.

Well, he ruled the house. He died last year - never once realizing that he was crippled from birth.

Feral foster cats update...
The two I'm fostering for my friend are making good progress. One is pretty much ready to be adopted. She can be a little purr machine at times and loves to play. Here's a recent pic of her:
Misty
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_ti_aShlyB7A/Sl_I2SYWlPI/AAAAAAAADHI/m_etbiULFm4/s800/IMG_9116.JPG

Her brother (the really scared one) has also made progress, but he's still pretty skittish. He's a handsome boy though. I've at least been able to pet him several times without his biting or swatting at me. We still have a ways to go before he's ready to be adopted. Here he is:
Morry
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_ti_aShlyB7A/Sl_I8DDjSsI/AAAAAAAADHg/N1LO5QxfOyE/s512/IMG_9124.JPG

And I had another kitten appear at my back door 2 mornings last week meowing loudly enough to wake me up in the wee hours. I caught her that second morning. She's much younger than the others and obviously not part of that litter. She's also a purr and play machine but needs to work on her litter box skills.

The lens is a EF 24-105/4L IS (Kit lens of 5D II).

She is pure breed seal point Himalayan cat that according to CFA Himalayan is considered as a color variation of Persian but TICA recognizes them as a separate breed. No mater what, Himalayans are crossing between Persians (so hairy and flat face) and Siames. She is full of emotion and with extra high IQ. She has a famous father in Hollywood but now is grown as a domestic home girl with no shinny glamorous life in horizon.

Yes she is...She's adorable. Love at first site I must say! My gf (holding her) couldn't be pulled away, filled out the app only 5 minutes after meeting her.

She wanted a rag doll kitty but they're expensive and when she was holding her, Niobe just sort of flopped in her arms and didn't move. =)

Vegas, so sorry to hear of your loss.. I know what its like to lose a pet... even if you were only looking after them

I havea picture to contribute. This cat can be found throughout this thread but I just got my 50D and i walked out and his pose was too good to let pass.

I'm absolutely blown away by the 50D compared to my 450D.... Its lightyears ahead...

On with the pic!

Taken on the nfty fifty at f/3.5 so as to get both of his bright green eyes in focus, and lens has been micro-adjusted for perfect sharpness :P

No no... nothing insensitive taken! This thread is about the celebration of our furry friends/family members, past or present. I'm enjoying everyone's pics because I can relate to how special they are to everyone.

I'll post a pic of the other cat soon... I've realized I don't have nearly enough pictures of him after looking for pics of Bandit. Valuable lesson learned! :)

Firstly, thank you for the lovely comment, as someone fairly new to photography encouragement is a wonderful thing and is well recieved.

Secondly, I would say yes! but there is a catch.

I just upgraded to a 50D from a 450D and one of the reasons that photo was so sharp was because the lens was micro-adjusted(a feature the 450D lacks) so now the focus will (hopefully be) that sharp with every shot, and with my testing i've definetly found that to be so!

That being said, on my 450D the 50mm f1.8 wasnt horrible, just wee bit soft when Autofocusing (it had a tendency to front focus)

Using Manual focus (or autofocus with a well paired nifty) as well as stoping down into the f/2.5-4 range will get you shots that are absolutley incredible for the minimal financial outlay.

I say go for it :D but if you're hesitant try them in a shop (most proper camera shops in my experience generally allow you to whack a few lenses on your body if you bring it down and take some test shots to consider the purchase)

Have fun and keep shooting cats :P

In memory of my Maxie, who was put to rest late today after a sudden and brief illness. I lost her brother just over 2 months ago, and to lose her today was heartbreaking. She has what we originally thought was a bad reaction to some nausea medicine from the vet's on Saturday, but she basically became blind, disoriented, and developed other neurological issues in a few short hours which makes us think something else happened. She also hadn't eaten in 3 days and showed no interest in food. The cat I said goodbye to today was not the same one I'd known for the last 18 years. At least she's at peace now and with her brother.

Many thanks to all for your kind comments about Maxie.

On a positive note, one of my foster kittens went to a new home today! Now I just need to get her brother to chill a bit more and find him a home. However, I also discovered 4 more little ones in my back yard tonight. They appear to be about 4 weeks old. I knew the mom cat had them, but I didn't know how many or where until tonight. Man, they just keep coming!

haileylommen, they really let her go in the woods? How sad!!
