A friend of mine asked me if I'd mind taking adoption photos of some kittens she was fostering. (The kittens have since been adopted.)

http://www.time4email.com/jennifer_cats/CRW_3272.jpg
http://www.time4email.com/jennifer_cats/CRW_3293.jpg

While I was there, I took these shots of her own cats:

This is Washington, a little old lady cat.
http://www.time4email.com/jennifer_cats/CRW_3248.jpg

This is Tana, who never, ever lets anyone take her picture.
http://www.time4email.com/jennifer_cats/CRW_3253.jpg

Technical details: All shots taken with Canon Digital Rebel (300D, Waisa firmware hack enabled), the 18-55mm kit lens at 55mm, 1/200 sec. shutter speed. The first two were taken at f/11, the other two at f/8. Each shot at ISO 400, using Canon Speedlite 420EX equipped with Sto-Fen Omnibounce and flash head tilted up at around a 60 deg. angle. Handheld, shot as RAWs and run through Photoshop, then saved as TIF files. Finally, these files were reduced in size and converted to JPGs by Irfanview, when I noticed this thread and decided to share the photos.

Lovely cat. I think I would have tried for a bit more depth of field, as the cat's nose is all blurry, but it's personal opinion. I love the eyes, though.

One morning this spring I went to the barn and 4 kittens with their eyes barely open came out of the hay bales. A couple of days before there was a female cat dead in the road in front of our house. My wife bottle fed them, now they are part of our menagerie. The all white cat on the linked page was dropped on the road in front of our house. She will not let us touch her, she stays just out of reach.

He weighs in at about 20 lbs. We feed him a special diet food plus a very small amount of canned in the morning. The vet says he is just naturally big. He is about 9 years old.

This is lil man we adopted him from a foster type shelter. These wonderful lady's take in and care for these cats till they find loving homes. He spent all his life on the streets, he fathered many kittens. but now it was his turn to live out his days in peace and quiet and know what love is. They think he was anywhere between 14 -18 yrs old, we had him for 3 yrs till he finally passed away november 1st. He passed away in his sleep in my arms. His health the previouse past days were failing him, and that was his night to go. all the animals in the house were quiet and just left him be.

he was the sweetest cat ever, i first laid eyes on him when i was working in pet co, they bring the cats in 2 saturdays' a month. and everyone was looking him over due to his age, some health problems and he was scarred and battered looking. but on my break, i opened his cage and we sat on the floor together him just looking up at me and purring and when he purred his wiskers would vibrate. and it was love at first sight.

the first picture is him sitting on the couch.

second is him on the toliet he was there every morning waiting for me to come out of the shower, i tell ya he was my little shadow

My first post! My cats Ms. Grey and Troubles. I rescued both as kittens.
I'm still trying to learn how all this works. I hope the images are there.
Not the greatest images, but....it was my 2nd and 6th image taken with a new 350d. I still haven't gotten past the point and shoot mode of thinking, but I'm working on it. So much to learn, and not a lot of free time to do it in. Work interferes with all my hobbies.

Welcome aboard Adam. Keep shooting and posting. With the animals try not to clip off their ears, it pisses them off. ;) And try to focus on the eyes. Check your manual for how to use center point focus.

Thanks. Troubles bit me in the ankle for chopping her ears off. I'm so used to drunk cameras that I forget to "take the time" for a good shot. I'm getting better at it though. I doubt I'll ever be as good as most here, but I'll keep trying.

This is O'Malley, who belongs to my friend Jane. He's obviously a beautiful cat, and very good natured, but he's getting old and he has problems with his heart and lungs, so he may not be around for much longer. On Sunday I spend a couple of hours crawling around on the floor to try to get a couple of good shots of him: I'm going to print and frrame the best one and give it to Jane for Christmas. Then when he's gone, at least she'll have something to remember him by.

I think this is probably the best photo I got, out of about 50. I haven't yet decided how much to do to it in PP - for example whether to clone out the door hinge etc. - and if anybody has any views or suggestions then I'd be happy to hear them.

I'd crop it to a vertical personally. No harm in losing most of the tail.

So I was at the Briggs Animal Adoption Center yesterday. They were having one of their annual fundraisers, I had a ball. Anywho, I got one of the people there to let me into their (semi-)new Cattery (http://www.baacs.org/Section.asp?section_id=219) and grab a few pics. I like a lot of them, but here are probably my favorite two.

hello all, I just joined about 30 minutes ago and what better way to start off... to post one of my best studio subjects.

This is CoCo our 19 yr old tabby. We have had him since he was born July 4th 1987. He is missing his left eye due to being hit by a truck when he was 9 months old - his injurys from this was a fractured scull, broken jaw, 3 broken ribs, broken leg now has a pin in it, teeth knocked out, cuts and of course the eye knocked out of its socket. Long story short, he survived! He even managed to get from the road to the back patio so we would find him!

Anyway, I got a new backdrop and was setting it up and he decided to plop down right in the center (like he want to pose) so I took advantage of this "natural" pose and shot a few... Now any time I setup the studio backdrop, he comes and poses for me.. LOL

jverran, sorry for your loss, I know it's going to be really tough when CoCo goes...
