Just cleaner and easier to deal with (cat hair). Plus when it gets long my boys tend to hack up hair balls, so we keep it short (lion cut) to stop that.

...Or in my case, a disabled vet with a very strong desire to pursue new photo subject opportunities, that are still extremely limited even through a vehicle's window. I'd suggest anyone thinking that most photographers shooting from a car window are simply lazy, try it.

Restricted mobility precludes many "perfect" shots. Camera angles, "normal" body contortions & a myriad of other limitations make capturing the image that's in your mind onto the memory card. The BEST I can do in most situations is shoot from the car after attempting to get an angle that comes close to how I would have approached the shot previously. Don't judge all people with cameras that take shots from a vehicle, as taking them the easy way. For some of us it's the ONLY way.

Another rescue baby that I am fostering - almost impossible to capture! she just comes rushing to headbutt the camera :( sweetest little soul.. comes to give hugs and kisses! was also going to be put down for "temper". le sigh.

Kudos to you, gingerbeer. I'm glad folks can rescue kitties from shelters and help them find homes.
I try to do my part for the ferals in the neighborhood. Here's the newest arrival, Gigi (for G G for Gray Girl). She's the sweetest cat I've ever rescued. I wonder if someone just put her out. I haven't seen signs for lost kitties. At least now I know she's spayed and up to date on her shots. Thank God my vet works with me on these.
This cat is a total lap cat and sweetheart. I'll wait a little longer to see if someone comes looking before adopting her out. Right now she's curled up in my lap with me and my laptop on the sofa!

Nice kitties!!

With spring being here I am seeing lots of signs for kittens and craigslist postings. We are pondering a new addition after we move (next week or so). Our cat was feral and it has taken us a long time to have him be happy, you never even know we have a cat if you come to our house, he only is social with us. We are thinking a little kitty might help him adjust to the new place better.

A kitten may not necessarily be easier. How old is your cat? it all depends on the personality of your cat and the other cat.. these days most rescue groups have foster to adopt options, so definitely see how they work together before making the big decision!
btw.. adopting a feral - you must be a cat whisperer!

We didn't realize how feral he was till we got him home, lots of TLC, caging him in the living room with no place to hide for 4 weeks and hand feeding him fresh chicken all worked.

He is now happy to lay in the living room spread eagled with us all around him.

We toilet train our kitties, so a kitten is the only option. He has stuffed animals he carries around the house and sleeps with, in the morning he's put them in our bed. He came from a hoarder with over 150 cats, I think he will be OK. We will introduce them very slowly.

It's depressing for us this time of year. We see the signs and get calls but we just can't take in any more even on a temporary basis. Every one of our kitties was a rescue of some sort that we became attached to and kept.

our two kitties were both rescues
the last one I posted of the white/deaf kitty
we found her abandoned in a dirty shed next to her dead litter mate
didn't even have her eyes open yet, vet said she weighed about 3 oz.
so we scooped her up and bottle fed her and now she's a good 15 pounds lol

This little guy adopted us about a fortnight ago. No collar, no microchip but he has been desexed. Guessing whoever owned him before decided they didnt want him any more or they just upped and moved away from the area.

He is very definitely a lap cat, has quite a bit of kitten in him still too. We have dubbed him Alex, but he doesn't want to respond to it :rolleyes:

My girlfriends cat. I've always disliked cats. I've always been very allergic to them. However, this one I seem to have gotten used to which has definitely aided opening my mind to them. They definitely do whatever THEY want, but she has her moments!

Yeah, she shows moments where I am surprised by how fun and interactive she is. She normally sleeps on me, meows at me, gallops around the house at certain times.

Other times she acts like she doesn't even know us lol.

We use a very small bottle and feed her one Tablespoon about every 3-4 hours. Yesterday we started her on sort of a gruel of special kitten food and the kitten milk replacer. We're spreading out the night feeding now, so she gets fed around 11pm and then again around 4:30am.

awww sweet punkin! give her a little scritch between the ears for me please =)
we found an abandoned kitten before her eyes were open, vet said she was about 4 days old
fed her with a tiny bottle and ended up with goats milk, cuz she was allergic to anything else lol

not that you are asking for any tips, but I thought Id pass this along
when Izzi started walking around well and could get around well on her own ( 2-3 weeks old )
I made her a tiny litter box out of a box lid, plastic liner and an inch of litter
I placed her in it, gently gripped her right paw and helped her "dig" a few times
and she immediately started using the litter box, she's never had an accident.
she is now 4 years old and 15 pounds =)

(m last post in this thread...(page before this one) is a pic of her now)

oh and that pic of "Pepsi" is AWESOME

We are moving shortly and our new apartment has a patio. I am looking forward to getting some 'outdoor' shots of my guy, just bought some netting to make it a 'catio' as we are on the 10th floor and I'd hate for anything to happen to him.
Make sure the apartment folks will let you put up netting. I know someone who tried something similar, and they made him take it down. I'd be totally paranoid about letting one of my cats out on a balcony, though, for the very reason you mention! I hope they let you do it so Tailspin can enjoy the balcony!

Won't the cat just climb up the netting?

The netting isn't really secure enough to climb, he's also not the adventurous type. He is a REAL scardy cat and will run willy nilly which is why I want the netting, also this was on our patio a few days ago!!

Yep, he's a regular. Over the reno we've seen him a lot, tho that was the first time on our patio. There is a park below him full of birds and squirrels, hwe saw a hawk (don't know if it was him) chase 2 squirrels around a tree with NO fear of people. crappy cell pic
