wow this thread is really great - i love cats and was pointed here by another POTN member (who i suspect got sick of me posting cats in our usual thread LOL). i've always had a number of cats throughout my life and i just can't resist them.

now i've got 9... one stray boy from several years ago, one girl from 18mth ago, her 3 kittens, and one wild mum who we were feeding/taming and discovered she had 3 kittens of her own (which we caught and kept indoors for about 5 weeks). all 9 were speyed/neutered over a period of about 8 weeks.

then sadly, 2 of the wild kittens and their mum :cry: disappeared early this year, one by one... leaving one wild kitten with us - and then our other mum also vanished about a month ago, with no trace (she wasn't wild) :cry:

now we only have our 3 tame kittens, the ex-wild kitten, and the original boy who is very tolerant of all these teenagers and a real sweetie.

Last night we heard from our friend Jane that her elderly cat, O'Malley, had died. He'd been quite ill and it had been coming for a while. I was pleased that, last time I saw them, I had spent loads of time crawling around after O'Malley to take some pictures of him. I gave Jane a set of framed 10x8s for Christmas, so she'll have some nice mementos. I'm sure she wouldn't mind me sharing them with the cat lovers here too.

I had a cat that made it to 18, but her health was really declining and had to be put down.

She has been very healthy her whole life. My wife brought her home from a barn near a friends house with a sign.... "Free Kittens" . Her mother was a barn cat and we wanted a good mouser ( and she is great) . She never made it to our barn - she is a house/garden cat.

Ok dogs are a lil easier i'de say to photograph. You can get them to stay still. My cats, run, jump, climb and just go nuts. If I yell "charlie, lay down, sit!" He'll just look at me and probably go to sleep.

Who cares if its not "professional" looking. People are having fun posting the pics regardless. Keep'em coming.

I was trying to encourage better photography. But you're right, I was being an a$$. I should have just moved on if I had nothing nice to say.

I'll admit, I only got past the first page. I didn't realize there were 50 some pages. I'm sure there are lots of good shots on it.

We have a cat that's cute as hell, by the way. My wife clicked this one. It's out of focus, technically unsound, and lacks in composition. That's why I didn't post him. But he's her baby and that's all that matters, so here ya go.

Tip: The key to capturing your cat is to catch him just as he wakes up. Of course, the mangy hairdo is an obvious drawback... :)

OK - I'm new here, but this convinced me it was the right forum to join. Love the cat pics!!!

Here is mine. Probably would have been better if I had cleaned the corner of their eyes so no eye goop... But I had just bought that camera and was dying to just shoot pics. I didn't want to use a flash because they are still so young, so we positioned a lamp off to the side, and I actually like the light effect. I would welcome any feedback for improving my shots.

this looks good, the kittens are being cute which is always helpful - i suggest you get in closer next time, they are a bit lost in the frame with the bedhead and wall etc
also try for less distracting background and put a sheet of white paper off-camera opposite the light source to fill the shadows on the left
great job for first photos with a new camera

Welcome to POTN, pampers. That's a handsome cat. But you'll find out pretty quickly that black and white cats are difficult subjects, i.e. great for refining your photographic skills. Everything would be much easier if you got an 18% grey cat, but you probably wouldn't learn so much!

Rotating your picture shouldn't be difficult. Pretty much any software package will do that for you - including whichever one you used to resize it - and I think even Windows Explorer will. Once you've learned how to do that, you might want to edit your post and fix the picture.

Otherwise, enjoy POTN.

And breaking forum rules???Well, the image posting rules (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=51051) specify a maximum size of 800 pixels in each dimension. Technically, one of the Moderators could ask you to take the picture down, or take it down for you. But as a newcomer you'd probably just get a polite reference to the rules. It's not like you posted one that was 3000x2000!
