Alas, taken with a point-n-shoot. A crop of a cat my mom found outside a coffeeshop and I took care of for 2 weeks looking for a home. Sadly, nobody claimed it and my roommate at the time was allergic, so to the shelter it went. :/

MY friend is a volunteer at the pet adoption in Wilmington,NC. They just took in 52 kittens from a woman who WAS trying to help them but WAY overstepped her boundaries. My friend has 8 of the kitties and THEY are soooo cool. I mean I like kitties but these ones take the cake on cool factor. I'd adopt all of them if I could!
Kitteh overload :)

great kitten pics. I really wish my cats were more photogenic. They are impossible to photograph. They see the camera, here it focus and either slap it non stop of run away.
As for how to get great pics. Its not hard, but some cats love the camera and seem to want to pose for it. Others like mine run away and you really just need to take some "snap shots".

yup and use things to get their attention, most cats like chasing things so get them to chase something and then dangle it near the camera to get the cat looking at the camera in an interested way

That is so cute and so true.
We had a small black cat show up recently about the same size as yours. I put a grocery bag on the floor and she was in it within 5 seconds -- and then out again -- and then back in -- etc. for about 30 minutes each time hitting the sack with more force.

Here is my Bo..........He is my shadow and I applied the painted effect in Photoshop. I have 2 others cats and will post theirs as soon as I make them......just learning my new camera and have a long way to go. Besides the cats don't tell if I take my canon out of the closet to test it, the kids would tell in a heart beat.
BTW how do you get such large images on here? THe only thing I know to do is pixentral, and they are small so it doesn't take forever. Any advice?

There are some stunning pictures in this thread!!
Here is a stray cat my sister has adopted - taken when it first started to show up. It lives in the garden as its scared of the dogs, poor thing. She's been named Dusty because she is always, well dusty, from living outside. She has now had a makshift home built out of the kids playhouse though :)
D2x with Sigma 105 macro, 1/15 second (complete fluke it came out sharp, every other shot was soft), ISO800, spot metered off the eye:

Do you use Photoshop? If so, resize your image so that the longest side is 800px, then save to web. When in he Save to Web dialogue box, use Optimize to File Size, select 100kb and save. Job done!

Roy,
I have CS2 so I opened the photo, resized it to 800 pixels on the longest side like you said then clicked on save for web. (Never used this before so I'm learning) The optimize tab was open and I don't know how to do anything from that point. I didn't see anything saying file size or a place to put in 100 kb. I saved it but I'm not sure it's correct or how to upload it to a post. Can you help???

the optimise tab is showing you a preview of the optimised image at the current settings. if you want to compare it visually to the original (for quality loss assessment) click the "2-up" tab. then look at the bottom of that window - the file size is displayed there. drag the quality slider on the right hand side up or down to get it as close to the 100kb mark as possible (click somewhere on the grey area after dragging the slider to see the filesize number at the bottom change).
when you are happy with the image filesize and quality (appearance), click save and choose your filename and location. to check filesize after saving, right click on the file you have created and view 'properties' of the file.
for instructions on uploading images here, i could repeat it all but pekka has already outlined the process in the forum FAQ: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/faq.php?faq=vb_faq#faq_vb_read_and_post

There is an easier, and probably more accurate, way of selecting the file size than this. When you have the Save for Web dialogue box open, look just to the right of the 'preset' dropdown list (just below the save buttons). You will see an little arrow - click on this and you will get a dropdown list of options. The third option down is 'Optimize to File Size'. Select this and in the 'Desired File Size', enter 100. Job done!

didnt know about that one, thanks
i guess its good to know both ways because sometimes the desired file size might produce a visually artifacted image, which would then need to be resaved with a higher quality value - in which case the slider method would work best

This is a photo of my cat Eddie, who passed almost two years ago from complications of being FIV+. I kept him healthy for over 5 years since his FIV+ status was diagnosed by working with a homeopathic vet in addition to his regular vet, and giving him homeopathic nutritional supplements every day. He was the LOVE of my life. I have never loved anyone or anything as much as I loved him. He was the sweetest and most loving soul I have ever known. He slept in my arms every night I was with him, and it was the most wonderful experience. I cherished every moment I had with him. He was also a very beautiful cat, and everyone who knew him loved him.
http://photos.imageevent.com/puma_cat/animals/websize/Eddie1.jpg
This is my current cat, Lucky. I adopted him about a year ago, when I felt I was ready to, after losing Eddie. He is a very sweet and loving cat I adopted from a rescue agency, and I love him very much, too. He has added a great deal to my life after spending a year alone, grieving Eddie's passing. He is very much his own man, and quite a character. He is very vocal and seems to have about 100 different vocalizations. He really enjoys interacting with people and just a wonderful cat. I feel very fortunate to have found him. Lucky is up on my desk snuggling wih me right now as I write this.

hey all - i really like reading the little stories ppl sometimes post with their cat portraits, lets me know how much these cats are loved by their photographers! so here's this kitty's story:
miffy, born last december to feral tortie mum who was slowly tamed as she was starving trying to feed 3 kittens on her own. all 3 kittens were subsequently caught and tamed in january, and eventually let back out to be with mum in the yard. after a few weeks, 2 of the kittens and their rescued mum sadly disappeared one by one, and miffy is all we have left of our little wild family. she is a timid little thing, only half the size she ought to be, but so sweet and she loves attention and games, and has fit in well with our other 4 cats. all our cats are ex-feral or abandoned/rescued.
in this photo she is trying to kill a grass stem... her tongue is ALWAYS poking out, it's her trademark
