These are not great shots, due to low light and the Nikon S1 does not fair well in low light situation so I have to use the built in flash.

I was out for a walk (minus camera) at my family home over the holidays when I heard/saw a cock pheasant in the next field. I ran back inside for my kit to try get a photo. I carefully entered the field to avoid spooking the bird and this is what I found instead:

http://www.highwaycsl.com/Photography/Personal/BlackieField.jpg

I guess my cat, Blackie, was already stalking the pheasant. He's previously caught an adult female (which we rescued to his disgust), regularly chases my sister's dog and I once witnessed him trying to hunt sheep. I only wish I'd been into photography for that last one.

What a great thread - I have been oooh-ing and ahh-ing over everyone's cats. Out of everything I take photos of, I have found that my cats are easily the most frustrating subjects, they demand a LOT of patience! But I can't resist it..

Stewie playing hide and seek.

(1) Why ? When opportunity arises, cats tend to kill little birds, chipmunks etc. for fun.
(2) I think Stewie is not "playing hide and seek", I think he/she is practicing his/her hunting/stalking skills.

There are several awesome shots in this thread! Unfortunately, while I have several thousand shots of my kinda infamous mutt Ashley, I have very few pictures of my cats. I just don't take pictures at home, indoors... That's where the cats live, but Ashley travels with me. My photos are taken outdoors.

I do have a few, though.

My tiny baby, Crystal:
http://www.ldphotography.net/rrbbspix/crystal01.jpg

The purely accidental photo that earned her the nickname "Little Foot":

Jezebel, my brother's 12-year old who passed away shortly after a move half-way across the country last year:
http://www.ldphotography.net/cdpf/jezebel.jpg

My favorite little buddy, Puppy. God, I miss him! This shot was taken about 25 years ago (on film) and scanned with a crappy scanner not long after, so it isn't the best quality. It's still a favorite, though:

Marlowe, my 8-month-old ball of fur and claws:

http://www.shadesofblack.org/albums/marlowethekitty/emperor2.jpg

He's gotten so used to having his picture taken that he'll actually pose for me when I pick up my camera. See the gallery I set up here (http://www.shadesofblack.org/gallery/marlowethekitty) for more. The first 30 or 40 or so are supposed to be viewed as a slideshow, I took those not long after we got him.

http://www.shadesofblack.org/albums/marlowethekitty/marlowe_desk.jpg
The little bugger decided he wants my desk. He can have it, but I don't think you can use a graphics tablet without opposable thumbs, so he's kinda screwed there.

And finally, our latest adoption, Tasha. She's a two-month-old tortoiseshell kitty who hates me... for some reason. She'll come around, though.

Lucifer's the devil's cat? Put him on eBay! That would be funny. Can you sell animals on there? Maybe not.

Anyway, did he get his moniker because he has a really satanic kitty litter box?

Our cat does that to. It is because he/she is bored and wants something from you, especially can food time. Funny stuff...

Hopefully 4 different cat's and kittens are ok to share. This is my first photo post :p

I bought this little guy, Mr Magoo, for my mother this Christmas. He's a 10week old Highland Fold

http://www.ikirst.com/gallery/albums/story/IMG_4009.sized.jpg

This lady here, Ausma (Ozzy), was bought for my flatmate / stepbrother for his 40th a couple months back. She's a Main Coon. Unfortunately, she's chosen me as her cheif of staff..
The bucket on her head can be blamed squarely on the vet.

Chaos is my sisters cat. She was only a kitten when this was shot, but somehow that kitten look got lost in the shot. (taken with my other brand camera 2 years ago :p)

We haven't owned cats for a few years. :(

   You've forgotton so much about Cats in that statement. Get settled, make friends with a couple of cats fella. The girls will come flocking!

I just got my £8.71 (incl. P&P and insurance!!) Helios 58mm 2.0 in the post yesterday so here's the first two test shots taken wide open late last night. Looks like a lens worth getting to know. Very narrow DOF and nice bokah from some of the other test shots ... and lovely and bright in the viewfinder which helps with manual focusing a lot!

http://www.buzzdns.com/58mmfranny.JPG
This is Franny, who is very funny: think dumb but sweet blonde!

http://www.buzzdns.com/58mmzooey.JPG
This is Zooey, who is a real Prince: think brave and true!

They both arrived at our house after being rescued from a ferral group that lived around some derelict building in the East End of London. I think they were 8 weeks old and are brother and sister. This was around 1998. Their birthday is estimated at around Feb 14th so always easy to remember. They've travelled quite a lot including 18 months in Cape Town where they had a great and often 'challenging' time with all the bizzare new wildlife: from catching ticks  to Zooey bring a big fat squirming Mole into the house one time!
