Is it just me or the pictures in your G1 gallery seem sharper than D30 pictures? Did you apply more sharpening to your G1 pictures? If not, can you explain why? Thanks! :)

I too think the G1 gallery looked better (in sharpness) than the D30 gallery.
Like Pekka, I have both the G1 and D30. My experiences show the G1 to be sharper by default.
Another thing I noticed is that the G1 takes better night photo than the D30.

I tried to be more subtle in D30 gallery's sharpening. G1 photos have KPT Equalizer sharpening, which is overall sharpening (no masks), and in D30 I use Ultrasharpen Pro type masked sharpening. I might redo the whole gallery with LinearSharpen, which gives extremely sharp look using Linear photos as material.
The other differences which might lead to perceived sharpness differences are DoF which is always really big in G1 and real focal lenght which means G1 can be held much more casually and still get sharp photos.
Night shots are very tripod-dependent, so D30 requires a really big and heavy tripod with a heavy head if you want to do great night shots. That's why I have now a Manfrotto 075 with UniLock 60 head ready for night shots. The Junior tripod which was good for G1 is way too fragile for 70-200 lens.

Pekka,
Please excuse my ignorance but what exactly is the Manfrotto 075 and UniLock 60 head? I can't seem to find any info on them.

Hi Doug,
Manfrotto codes are different in USA so there 075 is 3036 ( http://www.manfrotto.com/products/metric/botfot3.html?menu=botfot2.html&menu1=botfot2.html§ionid=2&subsectionid=3&categoryid=11&subcategoryid=44&man_code=075&company=MNO&doc_from=gerarchia&contatore=primo ).

Pekka, you mentioned KPT Equalizer filter. I did a Google search and found it including the three filters that make it up. Which of those three did you use to sharpen the G1 images? Since I missed the free download during the summer, do you know where I might still get it for free. I see that it typically sells for $29/95 in the US, but I do not see it for sale at Procreate or anywhere else now. Thanks.
