IBM site is no help. Installed drivers, etc, for Microdrive 340Mb. Systems/drivers indicates it is there. PCMCIA slot also shows it. But, My Computer does not show the card/drive. This PCMCIA adapter works fine with a silicon CF card. Suggestions?

Are you sure your reader supports Type II CF? Some do not.

It gets worse: I plugged in and installed a ZIO! reader, which Macromedia supplies for MDs, and I get a different fatal error: a drive letter is assigned, and if I insert a CF it's fine, but if I insert the MD it freezes until I remove the MD. But this same MD works fine in my WINME-based notebook.

Mike, were you able to resolve your problem? I have the same exact problem with my ACOM DATA CF reader under both Windows XP and Windows ME.
Regards.

Yes, but brute force. PCMCIA adapter would not assigne a drive letter; no other problems, just no drive letter. Tried the ZiO (USB) thta came with the camera, and it was crap. It did not work in three different PCs and three different O/S, so maybe just a broken unit. My PCMCIA adapter was old enough that I did not have documentation anymore. Since it could see the MD (listed in System/Drivers) it seemed to me that it should work, but without a drive letter you can't do anything.
So, I got a new adapter. The one I got is a Data Chute. Works fine with WIN98SE. Then I got a new PC for my office and put a Data Chute in there and works fine under XP. Finally, upgraded to XP at home and still doing OK.
Bottom line was that tech support was zero, so a new unit was required.
