It looks pretty brutal. Nice work under adverse conditions.

I was wondering what you'd been getting up to during the close season ;) Good to see you've been using your time wisely Glenn!
As always, this canoe polo mullarkey looks like total chaos  but you've captured it beautifully... balancing the flash and ambient elements of the exposure nicely.
Top job.

Great shots Glenn. My thoughts mirrored Ken's as I scrolled down the pictures - brutal sums it up well. Didn't actually appreciate just how physical this sport is - the logo on the canoe in #7 is spot on!
Cheers,
Simon.

Thanks for the comments people. Canoe polo is a pretty rough sport. Basically it's a combination of basketball, waterpolo and canoeing and is officially "full contact". Within reason ramming, shoving or capsizing your opponent is all fair game.
Gavin: I was trying to avoid using flash but the Canon EF 135mm f/2.0L wasn't delivering for me (it was having real focusing issues) so I was forced to get the Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8 out and bang away. No real issue but I do find fixing all the red-eye a pain - CP is rough enough without giving the impression that it's played by demons

I'm enjoying my off season, even avoiding the Croft rallies and not suffering any withdrawal symptoms. Glenn is a glutton for punishment.
Something like CP which seems to be held in badly lit swimming baths would really benefit from some remote flashes and Pocket Wizards. You would have to earn a lot from the events to make that pay for iteslf though.

WOW! This looks like a fast moving sport, as well as potentially dangerous.
PS, I thought those are called "Kayaks"? GREAT shots Glen. :D

 Don't even go there... "Kayak Polo" / "Canoe Polo" is an issue within the sport to rival our own "crop factor" / "focal length multiplier" debate.
(and it's probably just as pointless  )

Not many people do... one of the main reasons behind the photography is to try and "raise the profile a little".

You're right. The lighting is often terrible - this was actually one of the better venues. I did a shoot for one of the youth divisions in Luton recently and couldn't believe how poor the lighing was there.

Wow, canoe polo and photography - two of my favourite things - in one thread! :D
Here's a few of mine, comments or suggestions welcome. We were at an outdoor tournament so I didn't have to worry about flash but the dock was quite far from the pitch (need to spend money on lenses instead of canoe polo gear!). I'm usually too busy playing or worried about getting my camera wet to take photos.
