RAW + JPG

I could not understand that. Why RAW file is containing an embedded JPG file? What is advantage of that? If, I work with RAW format, why I need JPG?

The jpg file is to help you preview/proof a large number of images quickly, without having to do RAW conversion on them, which can be time-consuming.
