Went out yesterday and came home with a new toy. the Selphy CP710.

So far im very pleased with its results, its quite quick to print and als entertaining with its 4 pass process.

The only down side(s) of this printer that I have found so far is that it will not print a RAW image (still testing). This means that if you are shooting and possibly want an on location print you must select the JPG+RAW option on the camera. Also best results (so far) are printing either direct from the camera or from the memory car using the printers own slot. The problem when printing from the PC (Apple PowerBook in my case) I find that the printed image is croped when the print comes off, however this could be down to user error and lack or reading the user guide.

Reasons for buying this printer?:

Every year we go off exploring remote places, Sahara, Russia, Eastern Europe and next year China. So many times we meet fantasticly interesting people in areas so remote that a digital camera with instant display on the back is fasinating to them, how cool it would be to quickly whip out the memory card and print off a print to give to them.

This was the main reason, another reason is that the printer does not use conventional ink, thus preventing the chance of dried up ink, mess from leakages and problems with altitude pressure. Each set of paper comes with the dye sub thermal print film so you know exactly that if you have 3 sheets of paper left you have the ability to print those remaining 3 sheets, no worries of running out of ink.

In all a nice quality printer (so far) I will add comments if I find any other +'s or -'s as I use it.

Cheers

I bought a CP-300 from Canon's ebay site. Cost me £30 and it's great.

I had my camera at Best Buy yesterday when they were demoing it, so we printed out a shot. I thought I was shooting raw only, but must have been shooting raw & jpg. It was a really nice print, except my contrast was at -2, so it was a bit washed out. But not the printers fault. LOL.
