Brand new to digital; thinking about buying a G2. I've read many reviews.

As for the proprietary battery, in only one review did I come across the comment that one must charge the battery while it's INSIDE the camera. This surprises me. Is this common to digicams?? I assumed there would be some stick-it-into-the-charger device I'd do a recharge on while I'm out taking pics with my spare battery. Like my cell phone.

Was the review wrong? Is there a Canon stand-alone charger? Any compatible third-party charger?

Thanks for any forthcoming info/tips...or shoulders to cry on if I'd be stuck watching my G2 (for hours?) while the battery juices up within the G2's bowels.

Actually, there are optional chargers available for G2 batteries... either for household or car use.

And even the charging in the camera itself is quite quick and painless. Once it's charged, the battery lasts much longer than I had anticipated.

In fact, if I have any criticism, it's that there's relatively little warning once the power does start to go. Once the lcd bar goes from full to not-so-full, there's really not much time left before it's entirely out of juice. At least, that's the case on mine.

Hope that helps

You want CANON CR-560, run a search on a web for prices, the Canon made charger will cost you around $130, non-Canon made chargers run around $75.
