I love the second one! And I never get tired of seeing them do that. There was a high school game I attended last year in which our boys did 10 slam dunks. Did you shoot raw or JPEG? Looks like they had awful lighting.

Good stuff in obviously dire conditions.

I can sympathise. I'm guessing from your location that this is the Gloucester Giants in action in the EBL Div III... I shoot the Essex & Herts Leopards pretty regularly in Div I and the lighting is usually no better

I am 'fortunate' that I can bolster the exposure with some flash - but this still brings its own set of problems - dealing with a mix of colour temperatures, shadows, getting the balance of flash/ambient just right.

Next season, I'm seriously thinking about strobing the two venues I normally shoot at. I'm not sure if it's been done before in UK hoops, but we've got to start somewhere!

If you come across any venues with decent lighting, please drop me a line!

Praise indeed!

Thanks Gavin, Cheltenham Recreation centre doesn't lend itself to photography very well - with poor lighting, illuminated emergency exit signs and a pitch so close to one side that you are liable to be clattered by one of the players at any time.

You are right with the Gloucester Giants

I would say lots of things........but mainly your f-stop. Your going to need at least f2.8 to get decent shots indoors.......unless your lighting is out of this world. At least thats been my experience. Someone with way more experience and knowledge can exponud on that more. But around here in the High School gyms.........f2.8 is a MUST and the best shutter speed I could get was 250 maybe 320 if I was extremely lucky.
