Some more questions: If I buy the G2, I'll want to buy a nice photo-quality printer. Among many printers I've been looking at the EPSON Stylus Photo 785EPX. (Can I say "Epson" on this Canon forum?)

I'm reading about a "PRINT Image Matching" [PIM] technology used by a number of digicam manufacturers (e.g., Casio, Epson, Kyocera, Minolta, Nikon, Pentax, and Sony). Noticeably absent from that group is Canon.

1. Anyone know about PRINT Image Matching?
2. If a number of high-profile digicams use it, what are the reasons Canon doesn't?
3. Should I care?
4. If I go ahead and buy the PowerShot G2, will I lose much resolution quality printing off an EPSON Stylus Photo 785EPX without the "benefits" of PIM?
5. Finally, you G2 owners, what printer have you found that works well with your G2?

Just sell me on the G2!

hi, i have the G2 with an epson 780 printer (same print engine as the 785exp but without the built-in card reader). i was sold on the printer because of the glowing review at www.steves-digicams.com and, indeed the prints can be absolutely stunning on the right paper with the right settings. canon and epson are fierce competitors on the printers front so there no way canon is going to support epson's PIM. i don't see why you need it, frankly, and many reports i've read say it's not great or anything. i don't think you should care. as far as what i would recommend, the epson 820 is the replacement for my 780...love it for the price and borderless printing. however, the canon s300 printer is really quiet and has individual ink-tanks. many people have experienced clogged ink jets on their epsons although i've used epson ink jets for 6-7 years now without a single problem. good luck!
