I've been fiddling around with some extension tubes and trying to take some macro photographs (e.g. Silicon carbide (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=129376)), but as usual could not seem to get a depth of field any larger than a gnat's testicle. So I thought that I would make the most out of this with the following shot where I deliberately wanted as small a DOF as possible. Ironically, I had to make use of Photoshop to give the extra effect that I was after...

Thanks, but I did have to enhance it slightly. ;)

Which kind of gnat were you basing those measurements on ?

:)

I couldn't tell - the testicles were pin sharp, but the rest of it was so out of focus...

So, it apperas that in this case DOF can be measured in type points.

This looks like a dictionary page, so probably about an 8 or 10 point font, and the DOF is almost the full height of a line of text, so what would you say we have here, about a 9pt. DOF?

9pt DOF  Of course there would be the purists that say the DOF font should be Times New Roman, and those namby-pamby non-serif Arial fans aren't proper photographers...
