Hi
I recently got a 20d but no matter which lens I put on, I seem to have a problem with the 9 pt focus system as it will not focus in the center or on the subject all the time. Is there any way to change the setting so it will focus in the center or o I have to go with manual
Thanks

Yes. You do not have to go manual, but you will have to read the manual to select center point focus. I do not know where it is exactly, just open the manual to the AF area and it'll be in there somewhere. It's easy to set.

You can set the center focus point by pressing the upper right-hand button on the back of the camera [--=--] and then using the mini-joystick to move the selected AF point to the desired focus point. Pressing the center of the joystick will set the AF point to the center point. Page 67 of the manual has more detail.

Hit the button on the top right of the back of the camera, then use either the joystick or the wheel on the top of the camera until the LCD indicates you're using only the centre focus point. Not many people use all the focus points, I always choose a single point, 99% of the time it's the centre point.

I can use my camera blindfolded (except my composition suffers), I just visualise the motions i'd make to do something then write them down :)

By setting CF 13 to 'multi controller direct" you can select AF points by using the 'joystick', without having to touch any other buttons.

I wouldn't have the 20D manual, except that I don't have a 20D. :)
Though I might get one once it gets replaced by a newer model.

Does anyone actually use this? I think the little joystick sucks and it's much easier to hit the button and turn the wheel.

I usually use turn the wheel, but I use the joystick occasionally.

I use this and I like it a lot better than pushing the button and spinning the wheel.
I will admit though, I do have some difficulty selecting the points that are on the diagonal. The center and each of the end points select wonderfully.

I find the 'joystick' easier than the wheel, damn playstaion generation :)

That's why I don't like it, If I want to use the diagonal ones I can't get them easy with the joystick. Mainly I use center point though.

Like Tom and Simon, I also use the joystick and been VERY happy with it. Having a 2 and 4 years old at home, I found that using joystick is much quicker than pressing the focus point button and dial to select. Like others, I mostly use the center point, so having a difficulty when choosing the diagonal ones doesn't really bother me, but once you get a hang of it, it's not too bad.

I have to admit that the joystick thing is a little different, and takes some getting used to compared to a real joystick. But it does work well for me.
