Getting a 1607 InstallShield message when I try to install the software for my new G3. Have tried everything on the InstallShield Consumer site to no avail. Windows 2000 Pro OS.

Anyone with answers to this, please let me know.

Thanks

Sounds like you've tried everything that I could find. I looked at http://support.installshield.com/kb/view.asp?pcode=ALL&articleid=Q107070, but you may also want to check out this: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=13036#66285. Good luck.

Hi - this also drove me nuts - tried installing Win2K SP4 etc to no avail. However I spotted a posting to a Win2K annoyances forum which seems to work (well the installer gets past the 1607 error anyways)

http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/win2000/t1029773817

As suggested, I invoked the gpedit.msc from Run (with Admin privileges) and changed the following:

Computer Configuration->Admin Templates->Windows Components->Windows Installer:
Disable Windows Installer - Enabled
Always install with elevated privileges - Enabled

UserConfiguration->Admin Templates->Windows Components->Windows Installer:
Always install with elevated privileges - Enabled

Obviously this opens a security hole as you're extending elevated privileges to all programs - so you should reset installer privileges accordingly once you've installed the Canon software.

Hope this helps,
JMcG.
