Just had my D60 returned from Canon service centre to have dust removed form sensor and now the focus seems screwed up.

In AF mode it locks ok the the viewfinder (VF) image is blurred, although the resultant image is sharp, if you focus manually until the VF is sharp the resultant image is certainly not.

I assume the sensor have moved in cleaning, anyone know if a factory reset will help (and how do you do this)

you have adjusted the diopter in the VF right?

Yes ... I should have stated that. I can get a sharp VF image but the result is poor, i'll try and post the examples.

I once did the focus check on the
D30 of a friend of mine, it was clearly
out of focus all the time .....

Backfocus isn't just an issue on the 10D !

Test 1 was shot with AF on (red sensors confirmed focus lock)

test 2 was focussed manually (so image was sharp in VF)

well, that's not what i was hoping to hear.............i had thoughts of sending my D60 in for one pixel that shows up at 4 second and longer exposures while shooting in jpeg (with RAW it's not there) and a sensor clean, but i've read too many negative stories lately to chance them screwin up a well working machine.
i guess you'll have to send it back...........but if you do, the people i've talked to that had better results second time around have gone higher up to speak to someone about there poor service.
you may want to give that a try before sending it back this time to let the high school kids foul it up even more.
Canon's service hasn't been the best as of late.

Put your camera on a tripod,

Use your autofocus to focus on something easily visible. (you diopter is image is blurry right?)

Snap a shot and view it on the LCD to confirm the object is in focus.

Now,.. whithout changing anything or moving anything, re-adjust the diopter setting untill the object looks in focus.

If your diopter is out of adjustment,. when things LOOK in focus in the viewfinder,. they aren't.

I've tried the usual things - these tests were done almost as you say-

Camera mounted on a tripod - self timer set.

Pictures taken when AF locked on and image looks fine on screen although fuzzy in VF.

Problem arises when manually focussing - now if Dioptric was out then I wouldn't get sharp focus at all, but I do however the resultant image (on screen) is definatley out of focus (see test2)
