I'm pretty much an amateur, so I don't really feel comfortable critiquing the technique. On the other hand...WOW! The detail and clarity is superb!

Pingupingu, your information says you used 3 pics for DOF. I'm confused, could you explain?
Overall, I think it's a very good macro with plenty of DOF. Those people who are looking for more DOF are crazy. It's obvious they have never tried shooting macro before or they would understand how difficult DOF in Macro photography is. Nice Job!

i mean, that if the object ( bug) is motionless ( and you too ), you can use for example focus bracketting of the g3 that will take 3 picture in a short time, each neat in a different plan . with a tripod and very motion less objects you can go up to 10 pis (i never tried it),
after, with software, you take the neat part of each pic to product a pic that seems to have great dof.
here body , flower and right wing come from 1 pic, antennas from a second one and the left wing from a third one.
for me it is the only way to obtain a good dof with g3 because even if you close at 8, it is not enougth. I learn this technique on mark plonsky pages ( in pbase). but even with that technique , it is very very difficult, because it is hard to be motionlees, in front of a moving bug. here , i had chance that i can fuse 3 pics, so i catched this chance. In most on pictures i cannot and i have a classic 'poor dof'.

So do you select and only use portions of each image? I have bracketed for exposure only with the G3 and used a layer mask to combine 2 images to increase dynamic range but I haven't seen any examples of what you are talking about (except Mark Plonsky's fine images).
This photo is tremendous.

Thanks for the explanation, I have never tried that technique before. Gotta love this forum, something new every day :))

before I saw any replies
I noticed the insect was lit up
= like his hairy bits have a light in front of him highlighting them
so how could that have been if the insect was stuck onto a flower enjoying itself ?
then you say how the picture (s) was photographed
sounds beemusing
:)

What software do you use to merge the three focuses, this I have been wondering.
