Getting a 1607 error when I try to install the Canon g3 software on my computer.
1607: Unable to install InstallShield Scripting runtime.
I have done everything I know to do, including all the hints at the Installshield site and MS site.
Please, if anyone knows what do to, I'd appreciate it.

What is your Operating System? What service pack do you have?

SP4 is out now, try upgrading.

That would be my first suggestion. Next question would be what version of Internet Explorer are you running? It is the main application that affects the scripting runtime. If you are on 5.0 or 5.5, upgrade to IE 6.0.

Win2000 Pro -- SP 4, IE 6.0
Still no go.
But I wish it had worked!
More ideas appreciated!

When you mentioned that you've tried the hints, do you mean this: http://support.installshield.com/kb/view.asp?articleid=Q107070? If so, you may have a corrupt ISScript.msi. We might be able to provide a copy if that's the case.

Ok, here's a more technical thing to try
1. Click Start ---> Run
2. Type regsvr32.exe C:\WINNT\system32\scrrun.dll
3. You should get a success dialog box
4. Click ok
5. Rerun the install
Good Luck!

Here is another set of reasons why you may be getting that error: http://support.installshield.com/kb/view.asp?pcode=ALL&articleid=Q107094.

Right, Roncor -- those are the hints. I have also downloaded a new ISScript.msi to no avail.
Thanks

Thanks -- that particular link is for XP, but I have downloaded a new ISScript.msi and etc.
Running W2kPro SP4, IE6.
Thanks again.

Just as a short update, Canon referred me to the InstallShield site, then I do everything there, then InstallShield refers me to Canon.
Help -- I'm getting dizzy!!

More great news on this software. I bring it in to the office and get a completely different error, one that tells me one of the CAB files is nonexistent on the CD, but I can plainly see it there and even unarchive it.
Then I find that if I copy all the CD files to the Root of C: that they install.
This kind of stuff is not what I had in mind when I went for the G3.

I must say that is really strange. I am on Windows 2000 Pro and haven't had a problem. It is unfortunate that the problems with the software is reflecting on the camera itself. I know it has made your experience poor.
Did you say that when you copied the install to your c:\ drive it works? At home? At work?
If so, we'll have to remember that in case anyone else runs into this problem.
Thanks...hang in there!

I think that since I was able to install at work, with some funny things, but also was able to install on another computer, once I get back from Paris I'll just back everything up, FDISK it here and reinstall everything. Seems like once every coupla years it's just the thing to do.
Have seen some other posts where that was the solution. So a weekend spent doing that maybe fruitful.
Thanks all for the suggestions and if you find the secret decoder ring, let me know.
Still enjoying the camera and plan on much more fun with it.
