I purchased my 10D about 17 days ago. It is used mostly for astrophotography with a 10", 2500 mm telescope as its lens. It also has a Tamron 28~300 lens when I want to take pictures of earthly things.

Last Thursday I used the camera to take some picture of our house. The next evening I went to use the camera and it would not power up. The camera was conneted to the Tamron len when it lasted worked and when it didn't the next day. Nothing changed between the 2 uses. It just died.

Removed and checked both batteries. It didn't help. the main battery was about 3/4 charged. It's on it's way to the NJ service center. Canon is officially on my crap list. The camera was was purchased for used in the observatory as Mars is getting near. This causes a major problem.

Sorry to hear of your unfortunate experience. Working for a technology company myself, I can appreciate your frustration. These cameras are complex pieces of equipment and even under the best of conditions, it's possible to have a problem either due to a quality issue, or some environmental issue. I would say the better way to judge the company would be to see how they perform in this situation with your warranty. Please post your experience there. I know the last time I called Canon for service a couple weeks ago, they were very responsive. (it was for a dust problem in a 35mm camera I own).

I know that human nature is to have one bad experience and make the assumption that this is what you will always have.

Good luck and I hope you're back in business by your timeline!

Best Regards,

Jim
