just got my 50mm f/1.4 today woo hoo! so i was playing around with it using my 420ex flash in manual mode on my 10D

i have a maroon vaccume cleaner in the corner near my desk. white walls.

1st i propped up a gray-card on the v.c. and using my center af point, focused and shot.

2nd i moved the center af point just above the graycard to the corner of the two white walls and shot.

3rd i moved the center af point on the black handle of the v.c. and shot.

all three very different exposures due to flash output. (i set a manual 1/125th, f/5.6)

my point is? i guess it pays to experiment when you're learning. and, ettl is pretty cool!

even though i know this, it's neat to see it in action. and, even though the in-camera meeter is flashing for under-exposure everything still came out OK.

i can't wait to try some fill flash sunset shots if we ever see the sun again in WI

Glad to see you're enjoying it! :) :)

ETTl is really pretty good when you after learn how to use it. Read the EOS FLASH stickies at the top of this forum for some excellent info by folks who have been there. It will give you a lot of insight. Yes, I too experience 1/3-2/3 under normally, that's what FEC is good for! Lots of luck and good shootin' :D
