Hi it is an interesting subject matter. But you are right the angle you have taken it from is dull. Do what I do. Because you don't have to worry about film proccesing costs, take lots of images at unusual positions and angles. Even if you don't think it will work snap it anyway. When you load them up on your computer keep the most interesting ones. Work with the best ones and think how you might be able to crop it to make it even stronger a composition. I imagine on this photo a cropped section would work best?
Anyway that is my advice. You have to experiment. Remember that most often putting your main subject dead centre is a bad idea.

Martin.

you don't say how tall the vase is
but it looks big .
am not sure if it is a floor standing vase or if it is for a table.
if floor,
maybe put some very tall green foliage stems into the vase (not flowers)
or some very tall slender golden shoots
they can be purchased in any flower shop.
slightly shorter stems for a table vase maybe?
then stand back with the camera
still trying to keep the pattern of the vase in focus at that distance
and shoot all into the picture.
it may not be easy
( but life never is :)
as you rightly think yourself,
the vase is not so good on its own .
maybe this idea would help .
I wouldn't know if it will work for sure
until its tried.
it just may
the challange should be interesting if interested
:)
best wishes
marie
