I just recieved my first request to do an entire motion picture. I'm meeting with the director this week. Any tips on what I should be mentioning, what is crucial on a movie stills shoot, equipment, what camera, backdrops, lights, special angles, quiet lenses, super zoom lens, etc.
I'm sure that the director will tell me a lot of what he wants but I'd like to be a little bit more knowledgeable before I go in.
Also, any idea on what an asking price would be?
Thanks!
Mia C.

Make sure they provide the gear. You will shoot so many frames it's unreal. Since you have to shoot from the same distance as the movie camera make sure you have enough length in your lenses. You won't need any f/1.8 type lenses as in most cases the movie sets are well lit (but there are cases where you may want them).

My friend does this often and basically he has 2 1dMK2's both with 4GB dual cards. He has the 3 main canon L's (16-35, 24-70, 70-200 and a 300 f/2.8 IS) and shoots away all day long. I watched him work one day and basically he shoots non stop all day long. He shoots at about 3FPS for the entire scene, every scene. All the pics get dumped to the laptop which then go to the studio and he is done.

It's a pretty easy job as you can set white balance and exposure manually and you almost always shoot from the same angle as the movie camera. I did a movie this last summer, but it was low budget and I provided my own gear.

I don't know how you should price this, but I would work by the hour.
