Yes you can do it in camera, but the point is that you are not. You are doing it later in the comfort of your office with the capability of being able to compare different settings to see what you like, rather than getting the shot right in the first place.
Interesting to read in EOS-Mag just received that "contests like Wildlife Photographer of the Year require the RAW files...".

Who said Im not? Often I find I dont need to adjust a thing. I got it right with the camera. I dont play with the "colour modes" even though I could. The things I adjust are sharpness, contrast, saturation and exposure and every now and then WB.

Someone has stuffed up surly!
My uncles 17-85 is heavy, but a very good lens, its must be even better with IS.
Im going to have to have a series talk with Amanda tomorrow, if harvey norman will do it interest free for 12 months, over 12 months, then Scott I might have to borrow $50 every now and again.

Nah....Harvey Norman HPs you can pay off as quick as you like.
The things I adjust are sharpness, contrast, saturation and exposure and every now and then WB.
Exactly! All of these (especially exposure!) are things we should be trying to get right before we press the shutter. I'm not saying don't use RAW, I'm just saying I don't see any difference to making these adjustments in RAW conversion as opposed to doing levels, brightness, contrast, and unsharp mask in photoshop.
Edit: other than the better image quality you get by doing it in RAW of course!

Scott have you found the Canon Lens book any good? They must be due for a new one soon.
Im looking at a ultra wide lens again 16-35 / 17-40 or 20mm prime. But this time I need to make sure there are no "issues" with FF. I will be getting Canon glass ONLY.
After seeing the results of a Canon 70-200 F2.8 ummmmmmmmmm but with winter comming up I think the next glass will be the Sigma 150 F2.8 macro

Ever since I installed the TV Tuner card in my PC, I've had trouble with bad reception, and noisy pictures. Now, this is understandable, really. A tuner worth $60 is hardly going to pick much up when you put it inside the RFI bath I call my PC. My solution to the reception was simple - connect to the aerial on my roof, via a signal amplifier.
Great, I think, now I have good reception, but a very nosiy signal.
My solultion? RFI-proof my tuner card. 'food-in-a-minute' style!
68733
What you see here, is my tv tuner card, wrapped in gladwrap. Then about 7-12 layers of tinfoil, and a few more layers of gladwrap. Leave on fan bake for 30mins, and it moulds nicely.
Here is the card installed :

Actually shooting fast moving sports like ice hockey is one situation where the 30D would possibly be better than a 5D....5fps Vs 3 fps....
The other situation a 30D is better is explaining to the CFO that the "cheap" lenses that you just spent $1000s on are no longer good enough and you now need to spend a whole lot more, when you have just told here that you won't need to buy any thing else after the $5000 for the 5D.

Fortunately, I haven't had to call their helpdesk once.
I will also admit that these laptops have never sat in a normal laptop carrybag - I just sling them into a backpack - and, when travelling, they usually go in the hold with the baggage.
The current one has been from Sydney to NZ twice, Sydney to Broome (top left of OZ) twice, once via Melbourna and once via Perth.
Knock on wood. Based on your experience, I think I should go buy a lotto.

I'm in the market for a laptop (started my own business last month) and I think I will stick with Compaq/HP -- the only way to destroy these things would be to drop them down the stairs or dip them into the tub... well, at least that was how my "old" ones were -- reliable to a fault.

So much glass so little money. Looks like my cokin system may need looking at due to vignetting on WA glass. Seems slim CP filters are my only option. There goes the plan for 1 filter fits all.

The shop only had ND4's otherwise I'd have got some others as well.
Hmmm, the 4 is 2 stops so the 8 would be, what...4?
At the creek I was using iso100 and f22 to get it back to .25 shutter so I think for a chance at shallower dof I would seem to need an 8?
Well at least it's cheaper than buying lenses :D
Thank the gods I got rid of my 28-200 Tamron, I wasn't looking forward to paying $150 or so for a 72mm circular polariser for it :(
Got a 58mm Hoya cir cheap off TradeMe for Nifty and the Sigma :D

It should do, as the Canon SDK has been released for some time. Unless just released, the 30D SDK has not been released yet, and this precludes it from being incorporated into software like BreeseBrower Pro. Perhaps they have had to set the SDK aside while they fixed bugs and released the new firmware for the 30D.

Nope, Duncan has it, he's coming to Wellington for easter. Grab it while it's there. Actually I PM'd him and didn't get a reply, I might call him. Doesn't matter if it's couriered instead of being hand delivered, so long as it's well packaged, i'm busy most of easter anyway.

You're going to Wellington without one of your lens?
You know the funniest thing I did...
I left my 120-300Sigma at home when we went to Palmerston North for the past 2 days
I called you on the Southern motorway to see if you were home, but didn't answer, and hung up before answer machine came on. Will have to drop off tomorrow if ok, and may do a test in daylight tomorrow if there is such a thing as light

Well done Wazza. So will there be some shots taken as you are suspended from the chopper? Imagine a wide angle from that position....;)
I'd be grateful for the chance to take any sort of shot at the moment....We are in charge of our two grandkids until end of April while mum and dad are o'seas...and there's a limit to how many candids you can take of a pre-schooler and 5 year old before all involved get bored...
I'm still keen on the next GKPE ....Still Rangitoto?
Might have a crack at the the transportation challenge...the options are many....child's buggy, child's toy cars, planes and boats, swings at the park.... Might be a struggle to match the Westpac helicopter however!
