Got to admit, that was probably the best weekend I've had with a camera.
Just before I left.

The minis were good. Some obviously went through gravel traps. Here a mechanic gets the gravel out from the undertrays and also finds the driver picked up a young teenager. Chris, we should have taken the opportunity to sign those posters :D

Paul Honiss' brother !!! Now, how does he sign his name?

Weka. You could clean up down here. There are so many fit women who could all be pit girls :???: . The woman in the hot pants was a stunner:shock: . Thanks again Chris, hope you get back alright with your 'speed monitoring device'.

OK, what antifirus\antispyware\firewall etc software does everyone use?
www.ca.com CA Antivirus (Originally Ezy Antivirus)- they give Vista Users 1year free trial ;)
http://shop.ca.com/STContent/Microsoft/Default.aspx?sc_lang=en-US
I also have Nortons running (overkill, I know) and when that expires, I'll use the nortons removal tool, and reload it with the free version of Nortons I bought with a spindle of 50 DVD+R's
tagonefourone - I love the 3rd shot :)

Well another weekend is over.
Another wedding was shot. And this afternoon was spent with Kirst, talk a nice walk along Devonport to near the naval base, and then up North Head.. No cameras, it's good to have a break from them. :)
Then watched Wild Hogs. Was pretty funny. :)
Here's a 27Mb racing video for any pc gamers :p
www.warrenwilliams.co.nz/lfs_warren.wmv
Racing one of the fastest guys around. If I'm not photoshopping, or posting on forums, or out taking photos, you can find me playing Live for Speed. (as long as Kirst isn't watching. :o)

I have got my camera back! Well I actually got it back on Friday, but have been too busy to post since then, taken around 200 shots since I got it back, shutter hasn't fallen out and the back focus issue is gone, back to nice sharp shots :D
According to the work sheet it has only one unit of labour, does that mean after waiting 7 and a half weeks it only took one hour
The loose red wire in the CF bay was the positive battery wire, it would have eventually cut through and either shorted against the insides of the camera causing it to explode or just plain stopped working. As for the AF, it just needed to be calibrated.
Interesting thing though, stapled to the worksheet was a rather blunt and heated email to some manager type there from a certain Tony Searle, any one heard of this character? I shudder to think how long it would have taken without that "subtle" little prod! Thanks Tony!
Right where is that letter...

I had a fun photoshoot today with my chimney sweep and his daughter.
Here are a couple of photos from the shoot.
Basically these are straight from the camera.
Those are his working clothes. He wears the hat every day too.
I'd get the hat under the arch in the second.

weird - it wont let me post a reply to your model shoot, said i have insufficient privileges
ok so ill say it here
i like the first b&w shot but her lips dont work for me, they match too closely with the skin of her face, making it look like she has had them covered up with skin-colour foundation - try darkening them a small degree to bring a bit of contrast - this issue is prolly due to the fake tan you mentioned
the second one is a nice shot, but the cane is a bit arbirtary - its more of an old folks' cane than a fancy vaudeville-stage-type one - have you considered alternatives such as sporting type props like a golf club and such or a long riding crop? might be more suitable for your models' age group - otherwise maybe a gardening tool like a hoe or shovel might be an interesting alternative and would contrast well with their style of dress
also in the second shot her hair is untidy on her right
im not meaning to be critical, they are good shots; im just pointing out what struck me when i saw the pics in case you hadnt noticed it yourself

u know thats kinda like the advice i was given last year by a friend who isnt a pro photographer but when he is asked to shoot for someone, always charges, because he said it stops ppl messing him around and he gets more respect on the day.
i was double-booked for a shoot recently, which brassed me right off because i only said i'd do it as a favour, thinking they couldn't afford to pay anyone and would be left with no photos... but they also had a PAIR of asian photographers who refused to work with/beside me, and wouldn't speak english around me, and blocked me completely out of the shoot; which i became really frustrated with and eventually had a wee private tanty over and went home LOL
and, like my friend said: that never would have happened if i was being paid for the shoot - and he's right

Did the reporter for the Mini Challenge ever move? He was always in that seat. And Euans horizons weren't straight...fact. Not my fault he was there to take pictures of cars. Whatever floats his boat ;).
I've made the descision to get a 70-200 2.8L. Although the 50-500 seems OK (you can comment when you see the pics. In fact don't. Keep your comments to yourself.) I reckon the 70-200 would be a lot more versatile. Mind you, that 400 (?) 2.8 was tempting.

Horrible day with Ticketek.
The nationals for NZ Marching were on in Wellington over the past few days.
I bought my ticket at the booth, asked about photography, they said they weren't sure. 5 minutes later, I went to enter the arena and I asked the usher if it was OK, he said "Do you know one of the competitors?" (I did not). He then went on to say that they had to protect the girls from sexual predators and refused me entry.
Also refused to refund me. I called up head office today, and they said I need to get it to them in writing.
The cost of the ticket was minimal, but it's the principal of not getting a refund. That, and having it implied I might be a sexual predator.

Yes, it is fitted to the neck and shoulders, better and broader padding, rubber grips around the neck to prevent slipping, and quick-release buckles to detach the camera and become a short carry-handle...
The comfort is well worth the price.
As well as being "one of us"!

The cost of the ticket was minimal, but it's the principal of not getting a refund. That, and having it implied I might be a sexual predator.
Well that sucks. What is this world coming to? Oh wait, we were already at that level of craziness a few years back.

Well, they are tailormade to your computer, using your cookies. My adverts are all cameras and lenses. Where has your computer been? :o
i thought they were made based on the content of this page: cos theres many mentions of lenses so they get it wrong and advertise contact lenses... and the page which threw up independant films and asian dating was one with references to nudity and models

Yes, it is fitted to the neck and shoulders, better and broader padding, rubber grips around the neck to prevent slipping, and quick-release buckles to detach the camera and become a short carry-handle...
The comfort is well worth the price.
As well as being "one of us"!
lol one of us - how many gkpe's have one? *tests theory*
...and what is the price? surely they should pay me to wear branded items? my neck is valuable real estate! (not for any of the reasons you shady types are now supposing, either!)

I might look into one of those too. I Hate camera straps Until I hand my camera to other people, then I always loop the strap over their head. It is handy when you occasionally want to appear in the family album. I know some people who wouldn't dream of letting anyone else touch their precious gear, but I am not such a type.

Took me a while to find where I could get one, but here is the link to the POTN shop http://www.procameragear.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=30
Anyone know how you pay there? It doesn't look like they use paypal

LOL i do the same thing with the strap when i lend the camera to someone for a shot or two - altho i also use it religiously myself as i cant imagine how stupid i would feel and how stuffed i would be if i wasnt wearing it and dropped my camera
i dont mind someone taking a photo or two with my camera but i sit there all tense and watch every move they make LOL
how exactly does the potn strap work to make the camera equip 50% lighter? can i get one of those for carrying the groceries out of the car?

Several have them, as shown in early GKPE pix. That was tongue in cheek, y'know. There is no inner circle.
US$17.95, plus airmail (I would expect $22), making $40, or about NZ$60.

Sure they weren't handing out blindfolds...?

Simple solution to this, get a wig put on some make up and dress up as a woman.
Case and point my wife takes the kids to the pool every week and she takes the camera (G3 or 20D) and takes lots of nice shots of our (and friends) kids splashing about, has been doing so for a couple of years now.
I have been there when a dad pulled out a point and shoot, and one of the staff asked him to not take photos at the pool, something about the risk of paedophiles

I tried to order the strap and the wrist strap today but there is an error with the shipping as it is over doubled. I contacted them & they will fix it tonight so I will order tomorrow.
When I have my camera in my hand 90% of the time I look the strap 3 x around my wrist. So I figured it will be better to get the wrist strap & the POTN strap which can be easily removed with the clips.
Am I correct in thinking that?

I had both attached for a while, but found the neckstrap was unused. So, the neckstrap was in the bag for a long time, and not used at all. So it's left at home except for high-risk trips.
The camera is not obvious when down at your side, and can quickly be lifted up to take a shot. It provides support for portrait rotation. I use Really Right Stuff L-plates and clamps for tripod use, and they now include a strap anchor which works very well. Everything lives well together.
And after an extended period of taking verticals, the weight hanging at your fingertips extends the arm and shoulder muscles very nicely!

goodness it all seems quite complicated doesnt it! and here's me just using my standard canon strap round my neck and shoving my left shoulder thru it to shorten it while walking, (right shoulder holds the camerabag) so the camera doesnt clonk into my ribs (i wear the strap quite long so it doesnt interfere with vertical shots and checking the lcd)
i think i need to come with one/some of you on a shoot and watch how you do everything - ive suddenly got the feeling i've been doing it all the 'wrong' way!
but $60 does seem like quite a lot of money for a camera strap... it would have to be AMAZING for me to buy it right now, i still need so much primary equipment like a sharper long lens and a 580EX

ok noob question - i just looked at L-plates online never having heard of them outside learner-driver terminology, and i need to ask: does the plate have a hinge in it so it can flip out to vertical? if not, how does it allow you to quickly switch between vert & horiz without removing it from the pod and reattaching it? i couldn't tell from the pictures.
and how does it attach to your existing pod QR system? do you screw the L-plate in between the QR plate and the camera? does that mean you need 2 QR plates, one for the horiz position and one for the vert position (assuming the L-plate is not hinged)?

Warren's price is what I paid too, and it may still be available, making the cost nearer NZ$35. The greatly-improved comfort and convenience justifies that.
A big advantage is being able to quickly unclip the neckstrap when it's acting as a sail in the wind and vibrating the tripod.
http://www.reallyrightstuff.com/
The L-plate is milled from one solid piece of aircraft aluminium, and has two feet. The clamp must be of the right type. The plates are made for each model, and fit beautifully with no twisting. It stays on permanently, adding a little bulk and weight to the camera.
I observed myself and others, when on trips, and realised that unless attachment was quick and easy, the tripod is often not used when it should be. The RRS L-Plates fix that.
Release the clamp, swing the camera 90degrees, lock clamp. Alignment is preserved without head adjustment.
But, an RRS plate and clamp is Really Really S'pensive. If it overcomes your inertia in using tripods, it's worth it.
PS the system replaces your current QR system.

hm i doubt that would work for me then as my dynatran heads would not be compatible with the RRS plates; i would have to buy a new pan-tilt tripod head and a new ball monopod head as well as the clamp system and plate
also i read this: http://users.gsinet.net/pjwhite/rrs.htm which gives me concern about the quality of pics taken with those plates in place?

Typical promotors. I'm not going to argue seeing as they don't mind you taking a camera in, but if a publication decides to buy your photo instead of their paid guy's, then more power to you, and sux to be him. (s)He's getting paid to stand there regardless of publication anyway from the sound of it :)

Probably good that you mentioned your concerns to the models employer, too. Too many times I've seen problematic people get away with their silly behavior, purely because noone has spoken up and let them know that it's not on.
In my world, I've been poking about the Interpid Journies website, comparing and choosing trips across Italy / Greece / Rome etc, and nosing about the African selection too.
Price wise, it doesn't seem to painful. I'm most likely off to the States around Aug 08, but an Intrepid trip wouldn't go astray...

Yep - to a degree, out of NZ is cheaper. The States trip is seriously cheap. The domestic flights within America are free, and accomodation is too. I just need spending money and flight money for a return trip to LA. I may go to San Fran, Oakland, and Yosemite in the middle there, but that's just the cost of fuel and a 5 hour drive.

She's booking a holiday for two weeks. Now I need something as well. Ooo, a trip to Pukekohe should be fine thanks. Or maybe, just maybe, a company are having a seminar in Auckland that very weekend.

Most excellent offer :D
I still have tickets from a round the world trip that was cut short in 2001, with desinations such as Frankfurt, Dublin, Amsterdam etc.. It pains me to know I never made it there. Maybe I should plan Germany for October... ;)
October is too late. You mean end of September :p (If you where thinking of Oktoberfest)
I want to go to poland and meet Lorek
He lives in the south of France now. Used to be in Poland. That's why we see so few pictures from him as the French women aren't so easy to get as models.
perhaps we should plan a GKPE meeting in Europe somewhere?
I can recommend Munich. End of September. (Along with 1/4 if the rest of NZ)

Mmmm. Let me see. It's my birthday the week before Puke. I've put my present list in to the birthday fairy (that's different from the Mini Challenge fairy:shock: by the way !), 70-200 2.8 IS or 70-200 2.8 or 70-200 F4. I'll now have to add small print "Or a trip to Pukekohe for the weekend of the 20th".

Present fairies aren't nice to me, so I tend to just buy myself stuff, hehe

13th. Present fairies aren't really that good to me. It's more like I'll buy what I want, the missus will wrap it up and then I act suprised. If I leave it to her, I get what she wants! Last year was day at Millbrook including pedicure and a class on 'How to Apply Make-up", so I got her a welder for her birthday.
