Small satchel bag big enough to snuggly fit 70-200. The 600mm I would say was in a steel padded box in the car.

Next serious question.

Those matt board frames, textured cardboard, cut out frame, with a backing..> Where is the best place to get say 100 done? And how much do they cost.

Its a CTX something or other, nothing to flash, it was orginaly intended for CAD use.

1600x1200 is just perfect on the 19" tell Shona she needs new glasses :D

My little 15incher at work now looks very small.

My philips 23" died. Ive just setup the replacement 32" Samsung LCD

shame the max res is only 1360x768

Its 2 keyboards wide and I need to sit back to see the whole screen. So looks like a trademe item to get my "L" glass :)

Hey Yall.

My bags are packed and im ready to go, the taxi

Im off up north to Taupo Bay, home of the infamous Taupo Bay Pano (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=131426&highlight=taupo+bay+pano). Im going on a mission!

My mission, is to sell 21 prints of said pano. Theres around 300houses, so thats less than a 10% hit rate - something I think is achieveable (but who knows).

I've got my big pano. Check.
Business Cards. Check.
Website. Check.
Order forms. Check
Information sheets regarding mounting laminating etc etc. check.
camera and various other goodies. check.
flash cards full of music for the 5 hour drive north, check. (bet you didnt know the 300d plays mp3s!)
viewmaster. Check.

So wish me luck. If im successful, the next time you see me here will be with a brand-new 1d MK2 N. - Thats right! If i reach my target of 21 prints sold, Im buying a 1d2n.

Now theres a young man with big ideas, dreams and with that attitude sucess.

Why do some people fly while others crash and burn? Easy winners reach for the sun and keep going no matter what.

Good on you hope you sell them all.

Suggest also that you place a couple of those panos in some stores with your contact details.

Happy hunting!

Well was up at Karekare this morning. Just about gave the 5D a bath. Found 2 new waterfalls the hard way. Heard water went over the edge untill I found it very quick trip down, slid all the way. Will post shoots later.

If my 32" LCD sells its a 17-40 F4 for me :)

I used my ND filter today need graduated ones might get one tommorow from Auckland Camera.

Cool -- I wonder whether I will ever get to sell a pic one of these days... So far I'm doing things to help my son's school -- took almost 1500 pics over the 4 day camp at Carey Park. Can't post any except maybe for my son...

The markup's decent, because it takes me a while to process the images. Doing weddings it's quite likely you're going to sell some prints! Actually I should really point out to the woman that for the same price as she's paying for prints she can get a book made...

Yep, but I thought that when the woman takes her husband's name -- she owns him? Though equality these days means that a relationship is a partnership rather than "ownership." I'd rather have a partnership...

Indeed, I don't mind working under a woman -- just as long as she doesn't have a chip on her shoulder that shouts "I'm the boss, I'm a woman and you're a man, you will follow what I say, whether you like it or not." Btw, I hear red-heads are a difficult boss to work for -- truth or myth?

Indeed, I don't mind working under a woman -- just as long as she doesn't have a chip on her shoulder that shouts "I'm the boss, I'm a woman and you're a man, you will follow what I say, whether you like it or not." Btw, I hear red-heads are a difficult boss to work for -- truth or myth?

Redhead woman are HOT, I married one can be a bit fistie if provoked but cant they all.

I work on the pemise that the only person who tells me what to do is the one who pays my wages. Everyone else can try but my responce often offends, like the new teacher who sujested I give up smoking the other day. I think that will be the last time she ever sujests anything to me.

Partnership is good but it is a fact that we all take charge of something due to strengths or gifts. I have found that there are things Sandra is way better at than I am so she takes care of that area and I trust her judgement.

Agree -- Tina takes charge of the finances & cooking. I do the laundry and house cleaning (when I can,) automotive stuff, computers and some cooking... did I mention picture taking too? ;-)

We rely on each others' strengths to build on our partnership/relationship. Of course, there are aspects of the relationship that are open to discussion.

At the end of the day, I always have the last say and it is: "Yes, dear."

scott: what is a P size holder?

It's good to see everyones good wifes/partners etc. We all do our own thing. I'm very happy.

Just popped around to Tony to lend my 17-40L, and Kirst drove me (oh yeah, did I mention my lady is the driver and covers the petrol costs ).
Good to meet Sandra too, she's a lovely woman, and hopefully allows you to buy a 17-40 if it looks to be a useful lens for yourself.

Anyone have experience or feedback on Transcend 80X or 120X 2gb CD cards? I've read favourable reviews on the 256mb versions but couldn't find any on the newer ones.

The cards have a 5yr warranty and are going for $121 (80X) and $129 (120X) respectively on TradeMe.

There also are a couple of Kingston Elite 50X for $130-$135

Not sure about the Transcend, but the Kingston cards are good, $135inGST is less than I can get them for delivered ($132incGST + delivery).

<Cool surfing Shot>

How did you get so close? Is there any cropping? Hmmm sharp :D

No cropping involved, and the plane shots won't be at full focal length.
For the next 2-3 weeks, the normal main taxiway is being operated as the runway, meaning they're landing 150metres away from the fence, instead of say 500metres. Makes a huge difference.

It seems a little central, with too much empty highlight behind the subject. Our evaluators would also probably find that the two strands of hair coming forward are a little distracting. But I like it with a little cropped of the viewer's right. Much more open to debate is facing-right or facing-left.

Our Thursday mtg will be very light with more than half the club in Christchurch for the convention.

As for the pic, it's personally not one of my favourites of yours... I also didn't like the framing of it, and although she's sharply focused, he isn't. And it's a bit dark. Maybe an overexposure with some glow.

Thanks guys, good points. At weddings you sometimes have no time at all to change settings, you just point and shoot when you see a moment that needs to be captured. Missed framing, exposures off, hair in the wrong place, it all takes a distant second place to capturing the emotions of the day. I've seen some wonderful photos that technically were terrible, but I still liked them. The exposure was actually spot on to what I wanted at the time, I was deliberately using ambient light without fill flash and metering the face in partial.

I think i'll enter it. I'll crop out the right, and i'll change my channel mixer settings to put a bit more light on her face.

Sigma 28-70mm F2.8 EX

Should be a good walkaround and low-light as well as wider and more reach than Nifty (Sorry Nifty but it's true, will you forgive me?)

Actually I was very surprised how the Sigma 70-200 f4-5.6 APO coped with low-light at the weekend.
Especially as I was shooting medium JPG's to make my cards last.
This one is at f5 190mm 1/30th - whitebalance and levels, no crop, no usm, no despeckle.
+ 100% crop.

And now for something completely different, and the main reason I haven't been seen around here much recently...

Well I am I have an exam tomorrow at 10am, been studying for several weeks, did the course last year, got the kit here at home, know the stuff really well except I keep getting caught out by command syntax, it seems the stuff I am having the most fun with is the command structure which is based on a RedHat 7.2 Kernel, that’s right Linux, a bit rough for a Windows guy...

Hmmm vmkfstools -X 8019M vmhba0:0:6:1:LUN1.vmdk
oh and there is mii-tool -F 100BaseTX-FD, bet none of you Linux heads has seen those!

Oh any you Windows guys don’t know text editors until you see vi

Then there are the new acronyms, COW is my favorite (Copy On Write).

Oh well when (not if :D ) I pass this sucker the company I am working for at the time can become a reseller, and installations are only supported when done by someone certified, so it is quite valuable, another $350 to fork out too if I fail :(

I am actually quite inspired, I may just convert my 20D to Linux...

I still remember going to a computer show in 1984 with my father and seeing a GUI and mouse for the first time, it was at least another 5 years before I owned a machine or regualty used a machine with a GUI.

Anyway, most of the products I use, the real men only don't use the GUI, the CLI is where the real power is :D

Too often have I seem examples of configurations that cannot be done due to limitations to the GUI...
